I don't think I have seen a corncrake , but I wouldn't be any observant .

I know of a couple of those . 410JD ?
I've seen and heard a corncrake just once in my life. ( To keep on topic ).

Yep tis a 1980 JD 410.
Based on a 2030 l'm told.
The story l got was they were part of a shipment due for Spain but whilst in transit the Spanish importer ran into financial difficulties and they got diverted to Ireland.
Once here they were hard to shift because they came in dearer than the JCB which was king of the sites around then.
Eventually they were dispersed around various county councils.

Mine was the ex demo one and was sold to a large farm/estate near here in 1981.
I bought it from the son when the owner passed away in 2003.

I dont know if any of the above is true except the last paragraph. Just what l was told.
There is however the remnants of some Spanish decals on the machine.

As a child I caught a Corncrake in a field where a binder was working and I remember carrying him to the Headland for safety. The binder was cutting grass seed and the sheafs would have been fed into the combine when they had ripened in the stooks.

Do any of you have the lovely starlings nesting in your sheds?
They have one shed here destroyed
Cats are the best cure. Without killing any, the birds including pigeons get the message fairly quickly.

Never managed to keep a cat here, the dog would go ballistic..the neighbours cat strolls through on a daily basis.

Son in Law got this picture of a Kingfisher near Leighlinbridge yesterday. I tried to tell him it was a corn crake.
