I haven't read all the comments here but I've got the the jist of the general thinking here and it baffles me.
There is no way in hell the factories or supermarkets are going to give you any more than you are getting now if they can maintain supply!
It's not in their interests for you to make money. They will only look to give you just as much money as keeps you providing them with meat and nothing more.
Most of you seem to be scrambling for ideas on how to produce your beef for even less than you do now, and as soon as you do that extra bit will be taken away again.
Beef is not getting cheaper past the factory gate! It's only getting cheaper going in! And that's because of OURSELVES! All farmers, ag organisations and research bodies seem to do in this country is try to figure a way to make even more for less.
You cannot expect factories and supermarkets to pay you more than they have to for the product. That's how business is. Why would they care about you when they know that they have your beef, it'll be theirs at some point.
I asked the question of restricting nitrates limits on farm in the hope of producing less for more money.. can anybody see merit in it or come up with some alternative .?
