Hi lads, going agitating last Monday, big checkpoint on main road, guards and rsa, waved in and guards didn’t come near me, rsa official gave the tractor a good going over, I hope not a sign of things to come... advised me slight wear in the track rod ends. Looks like things to come. The days of tipping along untroubled are over. That signature looks awful like the name of a prick I knew years ago who got a job as an rsa roadside inspector a few years ago. Brown haired lad by any chance?.

If we got pulled in while driving loader on the road, be some list of stuff I'll tell u that much
 
I had the misfortune of being held up by Herts police for and hour and a half one day along with another lad because he had no brake lights on the baler. They wouldn't let us go without some of their backup escorting us the rest of the way. I do always check a strange yoke now before I go.

It doesn't pay not to have a yoke right. One mistake and you're fucked.
 
I heard of a fella who had a Nissan Patrol impounded because there were so many defects on it (no seat belts as front seats had been swapped due to hole in drivers seat, one wheel was a different size to the other 3, no tax, no insurance, etc etc etc). It also had a calf in the back when stopped but the calf was removed before the Gardai took the jeep away.

it sat in the Garda compound for a couple of weeks until the court had sat and a fine handed out, it was then handed back.

Apparently, nobody except the owner knew that it was also full of agricultural diesel.
 
@ShaneB140 did he pick up on the trackrod ends just to have something on the report do you think?

I suppose that untill there is a test for tractprs with set paramiters for wear on things they can decide what they like.

And the more defects the better as testing and fining will only bring more work their way!

There is a strict requirement for the amount of play allowed in track rod ends on trucks, I think its 1mm, that is what they are going by. Track rod ends that seem perfect will fail. There is a test over here for tractors over 40k doing commercial work so the guidelines are already in place

Is there a similar spec for car track rod ends in the nct?

I would imagine so. It's certainly one of the things they check in the MOT over here, don't know what the tolerance is though, just get told "excessive play" when they're bad.
 
It's a bit ambiguous when there's no measurement given, what one tester could fail as excessive wear another could pass.

In a way yes but ball joints or track rods on cars are relatively small so youd be looking for a minuscule measurement, where as on a truck there larger so easier measured. Probably a case of if you can see movement it's too much
 
Or welding a washer over the ball to stop it falling out ?? :scratchhead::laugh:
I remember welding two half washers on the track rod ball joint on a DB decades ago for a fella when it dropped off in the field. I don't think he ever changed it afterwards...
