Big farm?

I rang my lad at the weekend to see how he was getting on.
He said the farm he is working on is 1.6 million acres. Now that is a serious amount of acres, but to be honest I had no real idea of what it meant. So I used that planimeter thing to work it out.
This is how big it is if you plonked it in this country!!!!!

Australia.
I have a sneaking suspicion that 95% of it is desert.
He said at the end of the month they are going to round up 26,000 head of cattle for sale. He reckons he has driven hundreds of miles all over this farm doing various jobs, and has only seen about 100 cattle tops.
One job was go and fix a water trough. It was a 2 hour drive just to get there!
I don't envy him, but it is hard to comprehend to someone that has always thought their 100 acre farm was pretty big.
