Brexit

Verhofstadt made this speech yesterday at the ALDE congress. That's a European parliamentary party of which he is the leader. From 13:15 he's talking about the need for a European army. This would combine the armies of all 28 countries in Europe into one to protect against Russia! This crowd of unelected idiots are out of control. Noone voted for this. Farage has been saying this for years and was right. If it wasn't for the bloody border the UK could have gotten away from this and we should have gone too. By the way May has already agreed to sign up to this madness.

People we don't elect are making these momentous decisions and we have no say. How can anyone defend this?

you all said i was mad when i said germany couldnt do it with 2 world wars so they tried this approach....

The reality is that farming has changed regardless of where you are in the world and alot of people think brexit will cure this.
It won't.
Infact the EU funds are ensuring that smaller opperators are able to survive.
Otherside you end up like Brazil and Argentina with huge feed lots and no family farms.
I think everyone was sold something that turned out to be totally untrue.
If there was another vote tomorrow I'd say it would be a landslide stay.
Like we touched on a few weeks back there's an awful lot of people that don't know what hard times are like so they think by leaving the EU they have nothing to loose.

Yes, but we did contribute Riverdance & Westlife. You just can’t put a value on some things.

I would imagine the net gain for Britain from being part of the EU trading block is many multiples of that budget deficit.

Rep. of Ireland is a net contributor for a few years, but we have gained for many years.

doesn't that say that we are giving a higher percentage of our income per person, approx 50% more?

Brexit is a bit like the time you ran away from home when you were a kid. Walking down the road waiting for your parents to come after you and ask you to come back. But they never came for Britain and now it's tea time and they really want to go home but dont want to apologise.

That hit the nail on the head.

The British Bulldog can't let itself be seen to step down.
Apology to UK members if that offends.

Yes You Are right. Even At That It Is Probably higher As GNI Is known to Be flawed For Ireland due to The impact of multinationals here hence why modified GNI came along....

They are elected though, they're all democratically elected MEP's. A group is just a voting bloc, their's no "ruling party" in the parliament, and at least 25% of the member states must be represented in each individual group. The president of the parliament is democratically elected by the members. The only Irish party affiliated to the ALDE group is Fianna Fáil, if you don't like what they stand for then don't vote for a Fianna Fáil MEP in the next election. Is that not how democracy works?

according to all the remoaners,,,, no......

Lads we have British and Irish members here. Can we please avoid the "them and us" terminology if possible.

This is one place online where debate is kept on a pretty high and sensible plain. It'd be a shame if we descended to xenophobic tropes on the back of this be it intentional or not
