Farmland and environmental protection

Was it between Spink and the Swan because that is a wild bit of ground . I think it was @Ugo Schtiglitz told me that there is a lot of insects in that area . It is one cold spot in winter with snow and frost .
I heard a man once describe that ground " so poor even the snipe has to bring in his supper"

A young grey heron, they nest 50 yards away and must be one of the earliest to hatch, they will be hanging around the yard for a month before they give up the nest completely.View attachment 55350
They are still hanging around, there were seven standing but two took off as moved near the window, they were on the roof of the house at 5 am, It took me a while to figure out what the clatter was.

This is a margin of a field that used to be infested with sterile Brome. We started mowing it about six years ago and it no longer spreads the Brome into the field. Wild flowers have worked their way into the margin . I do not know what the purple yoke is but there are bunches of primroses . I think I will try and leave it til harvest before mowing as I used to mow it a few times during the growing season.
