Spring Barley - General Thread

Wheres that flattened field? A couple of weeks ago I seen a field the Carlow side of Stradbally near the graveyard that had been nearly rolled, sad sight.
The field is between Stradbally and Portlaoise, North of the Rock, cannot be seen from the main road and scarcely visible from the side roads. The rain forecast will probably drive it to the ground.
In general, end of March barley is almost ready to harvest, most likely when the weather takes up.

Picking out soft thistles in it this evening, the heavy rain didn't do it much good. It's breaking down a lot more than I'd like to see at this stage. It didn't get PGR I'm nearly sure and will check fields which did get it tomorrow to check.

Meanwhile It's neighbour is not nearly as advanced probably due to dung.

I found quite a lot of this when picking the thistles too...:confused3::undecided::undecided:

Looks like fusarium. Any blackening on this roots? Spring barley can get take all but it would be rare.

Barley after getting a fair tossing here. There’s a fair chance it mightn’t be cut in August from what I can see.

Have a couple of fields that got Terpal and a couple that didn’t. Terpal should stand to it (pardon the pun).

Have a few bits shook up in mine under trees but thankfully the rest is standing ok so far. 2 doses of Moddus seem to have kept the height out of it and put a bit of lead in the stems.

Take all was my first reaction too, didn't go down to the roots. I was wondering if the thistles were poisoning the barley plant leading to this.

I'll check it again when I'm in that field the next day.

Cut two tanks and got rained off . Moisture was between 19 to 20.5 . It’s not making a total disgrace of itself unlike the Senior combine driver who forgot to shimmy the arse of the combine to one side when reversing cutting a lodge and managed to block the straw walkers . Life is so much simpler when you chop the straw .

Gangway getting the chop literally. I said I'd better support the straw market.Becide the road and tomorrow is mart day should set a few talking. This would be a worn field which never gets any organics so this is the year to chop. First load 18% 69 kph.

Would I be right in thinking that was a south Wexford combine originally, it looks familiar and condition would definitely match where it came out of if I have the right one!

Lovely machine.

Plenty cutting around here too today but not everyone was lucky a few heavy showers around 3pm stopped play.

Moisture around 20%.
