A great stand of beans there, any I have seen are gappy enough this year, reflecting the poor germination talked about earlier in the season.View attachment 77171
Lynx beans in the ground 5 weeks today. 10mm of rain this morning and another sup this evening will really push them along.
They went into moisture and we've had 37mm of rain in April excluding what fell yesterday.A great stand of beans there, any I have seen are gappy enough this year, reflecting the poor germination talked about earlier in the season.

30cm(12"). 3 metre machine with 9 legs. What row spacing are they?
Is there a yield advantage in sowing beans at that spacing, as opposed to 5 inch spacing?30cm(12"). 3 metre machine with 9 legs.
The theory would be that more light can get to the lower leaves. From what I can see there is no significant yield advantage to this spacing. Time and diesel would be the main savings. Is there a yield advantage in sowing beans at that spacing, as opposed to 5 inch spacing?
We had a Planet seeder that used be used to sow sugar beet and my father used to sow peas and rape with it . I think the rows were about 18 inches . I used to walk behind it to keep an eye out for blockages and I have a picture somewhere to prove it . My father let me sow a field of forage rape with it when I was about 12. It could be used to sow beans .Is there a yield advantage in sowing beans at that spacing, as opposed to 5 inch spacing?
I’m sowing at 33.3cm For the last 9 years with no difference. Anywhere from 2.25 to 3.2t/ac depending on rainfall. Thus year I’m at 37.5cm on this drill but I’ve no worries. Crop looks good. Here are pics from 22/4/20 but bear in mind we’ve absolutely no rain in Dublin since mid MarchThe theory would be that more light can get to the lower leaves. I'd say the same that there is no difference in yield. Did you alter your existing drill or change machine?I’m sowing at 33.3cm For the last 9 years with no difference. When is flowering, in an end of March sown crop?Latest time is start of flowering, possibly earlier with some of the graminicides
It might be no harm to get someone to look at themRandom enough with a few clusters, some stronger plants near weak ones have a little bit showing. Variety is Vertigo.
