That thought had crossed my mind alright too. For a big hopper on tracks. You'd want wider tracks on the challenger, they're a savage weight.Turf Hopper would be the job.:Thumbp2::Thumbp2:
She’s a clean looking tractor Kieran. Well wear!View attachment 78624
The 9880 finally landed, I met the haulier about 4 miles from the house. Its a 1997 model.
The good points
Near new 380 and 480 tyres
Good compression, starts first tip
Tinwork is largely straight
40k box
The bad points
The clutch is gone
One spot of rust on the wing wants patching
And it needs a good wash
Overall, I'm very happy. I had no real intention of buying a tractor, but thought it value. Change out of 9000 with it delivered here.
It was a roscommon tractor originally. The first owner of the tractor is the current owner of the farm that my father's mother came from. Sight how things go.
I'll do the clutch and get her going and I might spray it over the winter. As you can see my low loader is also due a lick of paint :Thumbp2:
Good job, :Thumbp2:, keep us posted.View attachment 78624

Well may you wear , Kieran.
It must be value at that money especially considering its footwear.

Lot of tractor for the money. They had one at home that gave great service. It was a 1998 model with the later cab (evolution cab I think).
Loader brackets an all Rossmore? am sure ur local dealer Pat will sort u wit a loader a real nice outfit then.
My turf cutting partner is fitting the clutch with me, he fixes and restores tractors full time. He's on about putting on the bin and taking a second cut of turf to test her out so I'll update if that comes to pass.
Are they similar gearboxs , eg enough slow gears for driving the hopper ?

Yes, actually more gears in the 9880. We don't use the slowest gear in the blizzard anyways.
The seller did a disservice to himself there with the lack of photos, that looks like a superb buy to me compared to some I've looked at recently. Would be dear if it had to be another 3k even with the clutch gone.
40km box is a bonus as very few were sold with that and you have the hardest part done when it comes to the loader as booms come up now and again anyway.
All in all a great buy. I think you will be surprised compared to your Blizzard. To quote my father, you sit in a Blizzard but on a 9880.
They are a bit heavier with a higher lift capacity compared to the Blizzard so not sure how that will work for Bog work.
Is your Blizzard just a 12x12 then with no under drive on the forward/reverse lever:scratchhead:
Thanks Nash, I thought the same myself, hence I bought even though I won't have a huge amount of work for it. Its more of an investment.
As I've said, if I find a loader at the right money, I might invest. If not I can always sell the brackets.
The seating position is better really. I think the blizzard will be better for baling, easier get to the spools. Roadwork etc 9880 should be better.
It sounds like arse ways logic, but the wetter the Bog, the more weight you want. You need a good bit of extra weight on the front to put the power down.
Yes, 12/12, 30k, no overdrive.

Gave it a good wash since.
Personally I wouldn't be bothering spraying it perhaps Maybe barring the front grille.
Interesting no mudguards extensions under the sidelights like the one here.
Looking even better!

Looking well , Kieran.
Its a respectable looking tractor . Nor would I dream of respraying it.
Nice tractor, whats hours is on it, does the 9880 have the same engine as the blizzard?
Is the floor in the cab flat in them or raised?
There was a rossmore loader on donedeal a while ago kieran no brackets with it in a breakers yard might be no harm to ring around u might get a loader boom handy enough
