Winter Barley 2020

10mm here so far, pretty brutal out there. Few packets going down in spring barley. Haven’t seen winter stuff!

Saw a few crows heading towards the WB so headed over with the machine gun, they were nowhere to be seen. Then a few more came tumbling over the hill being more blown by the storm then under their own steam. Let off a few rounds at them and watched them blow north. Rain isn’t bad yet so hopefully it’ll all hold together.

Air traffic control has been surprisingly quiet here too.
Must be travel restrictions... :rolleyes2:

Talking to a man today...."this weather is bad news for winter barley, if it stays up it's no good, if it falls over it's no good!"

Results in from yesterday test, still standing, obviously not worth cutting:scratchhead:

Terrible looking crop, you’d be lucky to get some poor lad to take it for wholecrop.....

Looks really great. Shaken but not flat, shows you have brought it to the limit.

I looked at the plots just now, similar to yours - I was expecting carnage but just about got away with it.

A few little bits of spring barley gone down here after WOSR despite Moddus followed by Terpal (and there’s no grain in it yet.....).

21mm rain.

Am really impressed with the new spreader this year. Some of the field in the first 2 photos has the odd 21m tramline due to error when sowing. Whole field spread with spreader set for 24m and let the gps section control do it’s thing. It obviously works as couldn't see any difference in crop

Crops held up better than I thought, though wouldn't like to get another day Like yesterday before we cut. Surprisingly an overlapped section for spraying and fertiliser looks very well still I would of thought that would be the 1st place to lodge

Anyone come up with a new idea of deterring crows? Does a certain product named similar to the first name of an adult film star who trump may have Had a few pints with work on crows if you could get them to eat it?
