1st time beet grower

Beet is growing extremely well at the moment, must post up a few pics of Enermax/ Magnum when I get a chance.
Like you said- a drop of rain wouldn't go astray but serious colour in the leaf still- hopefully the autumn frosts keep away for another few weeks.
Have heard of boron deficiency showing up in some crops but no problems here... Hoping to make a start on the headlands in about 3/ 4 weeks.

Very impressive @headcase ... I'd swear I came across something even bigger this morning ..il have a root for it tomorrow and if I find it,
il post up a pic just to try beat you:fight:....
Beet is after doing exceptional in the past 4/ 5 weeks... if anything, the tops aren't as high as last year but the root is streets ahead.

Tops are slowly getting blotchy as can be seen but hopefully the lifter will be here soon to get a few acre out

I couldn't find anything bigger today in the yard to match that monster you posted @headcase ...
This is what's harvested so far here, Magnum variety and alot better than this time last year!

Still yours is a good crop
I would hope mine looks similar once picked

That 1 monster was on his own about 6ft from any others

1 on his own near the corner
6.5kg on the scalesView attachment 70642

Came across these in a corner of Enermax this morning and I thought of you @headcase .. didn't bother trying to lug it back to the jeep for further weighing!!!

Magnum is holding up well but I'm experiencing plenty of rust / brown rust in the outer leaves of the Enermax..

it's not a problem yet but I definitely can see why Magnum has a higher mark in the leaf score rating.... will be hoping to keep these crops in the ground for another 50/60 days weather permitting :boat:

Do you always stack the straw outside like that? Much wastage
Not it all but usually 1000+ bales stacked outside each year. It’s not ideal and we will build a shed for it eventually but if you stack it tight there’s not that must waste and it’s fine for bedding. It’s not really waste anyhow as it ends up going back to field in the dung spreader.

Do the Cattle justify 1000 bales of straw for bedding . We used to have cattle and part of me misses them but I was talking to a man and he has a dose of pneumonia going through his and is taking all their temperatures daily and I thought I have better things to be doing on a Saturday evening .
