Bargain basement reliable runaround

Best to work out a relistic weight you will be pulling and work from there to see what is suitable. One of the reasons I went for the volvo is that it has a reasonable towing capacity of 1800kg should I need it in the future.

Well the avensis has no bother pulling that box any way so a focus should be near enough it I would think .

Have been on about getting a second yolk with a while, was on about a Vito or transit van, a dyna at one stage, just something to throw tools or parts into, shoot into a field, pull a handy trailer etc, got a brainwave of a RAV 4 the other day, would fit the bill above and could use it for the bit of recreational kayaking and fishing with the all be it more expensive private tax, anyone any experience https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/toyota-rav-4-mint-condition/24112331

The tax is a bitter pill every year but looks clean otherwise. Stay away from the dyna for your work. Would spin on a cow shit and I do mean that... we used have them and got caught on stubble, grass everything, often wasted more time getting it out of the field than the breakdown did on whatever yoke it was brought to fix.
Youd want a ton in the back of it at all times

I had one for two years with a set of all terrains on it. Mighty machine in a field, good to tow, mid 30s mpg. I owned one from around 120 to 180k km (although I think it was clocked by around 60k km before I got it) in 2 years I did brakes and it needed a bushing.

Just be sure you get a 4wd. Not all are. Theres a button between the radio and the steering wheel that says lock. That means it's a 4wd.

Dual mass flywheel is the main culprit at this stage of mileage but it can cause bother on any vehicle.

The idea of a dyna was a bit romantic more than anything, I think they look fierce handy but as you say in reality....reminds me of the story about a lad putting coal in the back of a Morris minor during a cold freeze for traction, the village idiot saw him and when he found out why, loaded the boot of his front wheel drive escort

Sounds good, there was a mint 06 one I think there the first evening I went looking, it was 5 speed not sure what it would be like in comparison to 6, sold when I went back to look, must have been 2L because it was €710 tax in comparison to that one, any difference between engines reliability, poke etc, €2500 seems would buy a decent one of that vintage.

99% sure the diesel only came in 2.2 in the mk3. 2.0 would be pedril

Too long gone from it to know if there were variants of the engine but I know when they came out first a number in these and Lexus is220ds ate themselves. But from what I remember it was a dead by 100k or go forever kind of thing so no longer a concern

I found mine a great tool, largely devoid of character yet somehow likeable all the same.

I suppose I proabley would ! The only thing is my car wuld be pulling a cow box now and again so not sure wuld a small car be able for that ?..

It's only a picture I got sent. Is it a punto. There used to be a good few around 99/00 kind of time. A Local woman had a Fiat cinquechento some of the lads christened it a Fiat "cunt ta get inta"

They were " shit to get inta" around here.

Just a thought but I have a car here that i only drive once a week twice at most so I was half thinking of getting rid of it altogether, you see my wife has her car then, but if I went down that route then I would have to cancel my policy ..
