I was going to end up with too much Spring Barley and along with the winter wheat I would be tight on combine capacity. I haven’t grown winter Barley in a few years.
Make sure you chop the W B straw. It does wonders for the soil.

Is that SOSR volunteers gone to flowerVolunteer OSR looks way worse than it is in the redstart, I'm sure the weanling heifers will not turn put their noses at it.

Saw a field today and was wondering. Sowed so early I suppose.
Nice scenery. Is the end of July stuff near fit to cut or heading out?Westerwolds sown 21st August, have stuff sown end of July and I think this will be a better crop

Starting to head out now and not a great amount of bulk in it, lines of volunteer barley really taking from it, in hindsight a stale seeded and a later sowing date would be a better approach when following winter barleyNice scenery. Is the end of July stuff near fit to cut or heading out?
Forage rape for grazing?Last of mine gone in today
"Interval"
Will see what happens
Yeah its a rape/kale hybrid :Thumbp2:to be grazed later on if it growsForage rape for grazing?
I always find that early sown kale/rape benefits significantly from the winter barley volunteers being sprayed off. Stubble turnips and to a lesser extent leafy turnips are very poor competitors and need the volunteers to be sprayed at any time.Would your sheepman not be happy with the bit of roughage the volunteer cereals would give? Would save you a spray as well?
