Dull trailer lights.

Have a low loader here and the tail lights won't light up brightly. Tried changing the bulbs and checked the earth on trailer and still no good. Lights have never been bright on the trailer since it came there is a light connection on the rear of trailer to plug in light board and we plugged in another trailer which the lights work perfect on and they too lit up very dim. Any ideas to the problem seems to do this on different tractors.

Try running another earth from lights onto steel on trailer

We had the same issue with the old silage trailer. We ran a new length of heavy 7 core wire from the tractor back to the junction box on the back of the trailer. Guessing it wasn’t gettin full current

If you have a voltmeter or digital multimeter you can test the voltage going into the bulbs. It should ideally be around 13.7V, but 12V would get you by. Also are the connectors to the bulb clean and free from rust or dirt? On the 7 pin plug also maybe clean the connections and make sure the wires are clamped in properly.

Open the plug and see if the copper wire has a black or burnt look. I've seen this in trailer plugs and cables and for some reasons (bad earths being one cause) the wiring becomes overheated and a resistance builds up in burnt wire. New cable and plug should sort this out pronto. Also as said above make sure bulbs are 12 volts. Use 7 core and use a spare wire as an extra earth to help flow.

Had similar here as well. As said above replaced the 7 core cable and it is fine ever since.
