Nice looking diet. Many kg's of beet in there?0.5kg/head. Its 6 row hybrid winter barley straw so it's fairly course.
Had troughs removed from that shed last spring to feed round bales there .. troughs goin back up soonNo shortage of cattle there . Which do you prefer the feeding troughs or no feeding troughs
At 16kg atm but will push to 19-20kg. Will reduce silage to allow for the extra sugar beet.Nice looking diet. Many kg's of beet in there?
They will be motoring then. Will you continue to include 0.5kg straw? The ability to easily mix straw in the diet like this is the reason why changing our paddle to a tub is getting higher on my wish list. Oh will definitely keep the straw in the mix. Wouldn't do without it especially with so much beet. They will be motoring then. Will you continue to include 0.5kg straw? I'm sure it does. We are on 25-30 kg of beet and while they eat a lot of straw on their lie back and at various gates, there's no guarantee of getting enough into the diet unless it's mixed with the feed. It can be tricky getting them started on beet and building up the kg's too when there's no roughage to bulk up the diet.Oh will definitely keep the straw in the mix. We changed to a tub 4 years ago because we went all bale silage It does a a great job mixing up the slices of an 8x4x3 straw bale too.
What else are they on? With that amount of beet not a lot of room to get roughage in.I'm sure it does. Heifers on 25kg beet + 5kg barley, wheat, maize, protein balancer ration. Bullocks on 28-30kg beet + 6kg of the same ration. Amount of straw they eat is difficult to quantify but they motor through bales. Thankfully we don't get too much stomach problems once they're up and running. What else are they on? what is the problem wit straw in the padde feeder? They will be motoring then. Will you continue to include 0.5kg straw? The ability to easily mix straw in the diet like this is the reason why changing our paddle to a tub is getting higher on my wish list. Keeps their stomachs right.
We neither have knives on our feeder or have a straw chopper and I reckon our prehistoric redrock would calve if we even dangled a bale over it.what is the problem wit straw in the padde feeder?
That is some amount of beet, would sugar beet not make more sense for you?Heifers on 25kg beet + 5kg barley, wheat, maize, protein balancer ration. Bullocks on 28-30kg beet + 6kg of the same ration. What do you use to chop the beet ?We neither have knives on our feeder or have a straw chopper and I reckon our prehistoric redrock would calve if we even dangled a bale over it.

How do you clean out the troughs peter?Troughs win for me. One shed doesn't have them but it will soon.
Any paddle feeder with knives would make a big difference to your job for reasonable money.
