Repairs and the like!

Meant to share this ages ago but didnt think of the photos till today. I can't take any credit for this bar collecting it when it was done

Our old 12x7 trailer has an ex Commer lorry axle (Thanks kves80 for identifying). It's usually used for drawing bulk bags of meal, fertilizer and seed. Anyways Dad and I got inside the hubs working with one was fine but the other mechanism needed freeing off. The pads were near new.

Skimmer worked his magic then and came up with this.

With a load of grain in it, you'd know it's there now!

Is your axle welded straight to the chassis Nash? I fitted hydraulic brakes to a friends 8 ton grain trailer a few years ago and insisted on fitting U bolts, clamps and half moon spacers to join the axle to the chassis securely. My insistence was qualified by my opinion that the pair of brake rams I fitted were capable of pulling the axle clean from the chassis in the event of emergency braking with a full load of grain on board! There's very little weld holding a lorry axle to a chassis but I'm sure Skimmer would have this checked out.

It's welded alright but there's lots of plating on it too (you can see a bit of it there) and it's plated the other way on the chassis as well.

There's only one ram on this in any case and it won't be on any 40km/hr or  50km/hr tractors.

Be very rare for it to be fully loaded in any case, it did have a connection for the brakes originally but they were pulled with a rope tied to the rollbar on the 3000 or Major I'm told

The axle is well attached to the chassis @MF30 !!! As @nashmach said it is well plated front and back as far as I can remember, so I'd say Nashmach would be after flying through the windscreen before the axle parts company!!!

I got this frame off of a Stoll rake dropped in last week to be repaired. The guy only wanted the last 6" of the box replaced, but I insisted he replace the entire length as it was twisted in a lot of places.

Did up a quick drawing on AUTOcad before I started butchering the old bit of box.

I had a little bit of job getting the new box over the pins on either end. Required a good deal of pulling but eventually got them in. I had to also tighten the clamps to the last to pull the last bit of twisting out of the frame. It's fairly good now!!!!!

Gave it a quick clean down and primed it tonight.
I thought I'd mention these spray liners I got last year, the 3M PPS. My god does it make spraying enjoyable. No clean up on the cup, sucks the majority of the paint out of the gun when finished, and you can even use the gun upside down as the liner collapses as you paint, so it is completely sealed and creates a vacuum. I'd also recommend the gun, a Devilbiss GL5. Not too dear, and I got everything from these lads: https://www.spraygunsdirect.co.uk/
Very helpful over the phone and prompt delivery too!!

Top job as always @Skimmer , that is some weight of a workbench.

If that's from a twin rotor rake, there'd be more metal in Swiss cheese :censored:
It is indeed a twin rotor, the other side is perfect still. I asked had he hit something but he said no, and in fairness he is a good driver. He said that this side always folds up first, and the ram pressurises it against the stopper which caused it. Maybe it's just folding up too fast, and needs a restricter fitted.

Great work. Did the plasma cut out the old pieces or was that gas?
I cut it out with the plasma, because the box wasn't salvageable I didn't bother gouging out the welds and just cut clean through the box. The picture of that stopper is how it was left straight after cutting out, requiring only a quick run of the grinder to clean up for welding.

I'd be familiar with one over this way hence my tongue in cheek comment!!

Got the top coat on the frame this morning. It will be slow drying in this weather though.
The other pictures show the liner after finishing spraying, and how it collapses as the paint is expelled.
I also got this paint gun cleaning kit. I gave a thorough clean to the gun last night, and it made some difference this morning. Even though the paint was quite thick it flowed really well through the gun and the spray pattern was so much better than yesterday, even though I thought it was fine!!!!

Its a bit disrespectful to the TS to have GREEN paint anyway near it

I agree, but there isn't a spot of green paint on her! The sheet is a precaution, but their is no drift as the shed is enclosed and the pressure at the spray gun fairly low!
It's also a good distance away from the tractor dispute the pictures.

This will be a bit of a long one as I took loads of pics along the way!! Got this steering disk off the back of a Thyregod beet harvester dropped in Saturday looking a little sorry for itself. Customer wanted me to cut out a new disk with the plasma so I decided to cut away the bad bit off the old one and use the centre as it was still good, and it was quicker this way as the bolt holes were also countersunk. Cleaned it up a little and bolted it down after centring it for the circle cutter.
