Saw head

I was thinking of getting a saw head for the hedge cutter.
The lads with then how do they get on with them
It is my least favourite job tbh, suppose siding up isn't so bad. Cutting hedges off is a nightmare with it falling across the arm, hitting the tractor, getting tangled in pipes..................... Sold the one that went on the trimmer and glad to see the back of it!! Its a job for a excavator really and tree shears are all the rage here now anyway. I wouldn't bother if I was you!!!

Another point worth noting if you go sawing hedges it will be considered tree felling so may have insurance implications.

Mulchers are the way to go. CIE redid the main line fences here a few years ago and they mulched the trees and bushes down to nubs beforehand. No tidying up piles of bushes and burning. The mulcher even bet down a well matured Ash into nothing more then wood chips.

I used to like sawing when I was hedgecutting.
Bit more thinking required.
Diggers have it sewn up now though

I was thinking it would be a balls alright.
That over grown stuff is hard enough on the hedge cutter.
A saw leaves a lovely finish

Saw is fine for heavier timber but a heap of work after one.
All mounted on track machines around here now, plenty reach and no ground078743E1-FF87-4B4F-9B1F-22F5C5BD1129.jpeg damage

Have a saw but haven’t used it in 3 years , get the local digger man to do any saw jobs we are asked to do. Very hard on a hedgecutter and sometimes the tractor ....

Hi all.new on here agree with the above posts bought a new saw bout 5 years ago find it handy for jobs that are just a little too heavy to flail I just flail both side and the saw off the top find it's a neat finish but anything very heavy or overgrown your better off with a track machine. Did a few glas coppicing jobs on old heavy hedges but there not worth the hassle

When your cutting the top of a hedge with a saw I'd assume alot of the cut material stays on top
It can do or drop down in if its big stuff, that's where a excavator has a advantage cause it can sweep it off the top. There's a guy here with a reverse drive set up and he uses the slew to take it off, cruel on the trimmer though!

When you turn up to do a job people think you stick the arm right out and drive!! But in reality your more time going backwards than forwards, if its big stuff anyway.

Have a old turner with a saw on it i extended it years ago tnk its around 28 ft reach it hasnt ben taken of the tractor in the last 10 years or more used to do a lot of sawing dont bother anymore havent used it last couple of years

Have one here not fussed on using it as I reckon it's a bit hard on the hedge cutter and it's a pain to swap over.
