I think it was the very dry summer where crops were short and ripened early and yet yielded really well? Was 84 really bad??

Not even planted 20 days?really Doubt they would be ready for or need a fungicideI know it was a topic discussed recently but I was planning doing T1 this week on barley sown around 12-14th May, would you bother with how fast they are growing ? Maybe just a T2 when flag is out considering it will probably be out in the next week or 2
Whoops sorry I said May instead of aprilNot even planted 20 days?really Doubt they would be ready for or need a fungicide
I’d give it something handy like .4 proline and 1l of a multisiteWhoops sorry I said May instead of april
Looking very nice.
Walked through the plots here, things are moving fast now. A lot of flag leaves out compared to Friday. I fear for some of the plots. At least they’ve had over a month longer in the ground compared to 2018.
Is this really starting to look like 1984?
I can remember 1995, a lot of money was made that year. You'er not thinking of 1995 are you?
No, 84’ was dry from the from March on. Spring barley looked pure miserable but yielded really well as did everything else except oats. There were great yields in '84, but I think the drought started a lot later.
Not being a cereal grower the first thing 1984 brings to mind is George Orwells book 1984, is there a hint of Trumpism in it...There were great yields in '84, but I think the drought started a lot later.

I put up the monthly stats for 1984 in the weather tread . It is very like 1984 but 85 and 86 were horrendous years. In 84 We harvested 20 tonne of beet in September in a reclaimed bog but the tare was over 25% .I can remember 1995, a lot of money was made that year.
I was 7 years old in 84 so was probably more occupied with Lego than crop yields lol
Someone might correct me about 84.
95 was dry from sowing to harvest, we were finished everything by Aug 8, fields cleared etc. Portlaoise bypass was mid construction then, made a few quid spraying water to keep dust down. In 1984 my Dad cut over 4t/ac of winter wheat.I'd say he is thinking of 1994, the year the ploughing was in Enniscorthy :scratchhead:

Apparently it didn't rain from when the corn was sown till it was cut but was a vintage year for yields. Was 84 really bad??
I was training as a farm manager in 94 working on a farm in Carlow, we came back from the ploughing match to finish cutting winter wheat, and started sowing soon after that again. It was a late spring and late harvest from recollection.I have 95 now. Reseeding in dust on August 15th after SB and clearing straw.
I’d lash a heap of manganese on that tooThe May sown stuff is taking one turn to another, combitop tomorrow night hopefully will improve it a bit, all the K deficient areas are gone green and the stuff that was green is gone yellow
What’s the best product ? @CORK probably the best one to answer thatI’d lash a heap of manganese on that too

Jesus your lucky I’m not sensitiveWhat’s the best product ? @CORK probably the best one to answer that
Haha I only said that because I recall him saying he was using manganese in every spray, I’m sure your manganese recommendations are just as goodJesus your lucky I’m not sensitive
