winter barley 2018

Was out inspecting crops this morning, looking fine in the mild weather. Bit of flooding locally so bottom headlands damp enough from run off. Still no erosion on the slopes. Stubbles nicely burnt off so ready for ploughing whenever land dries up but that'll be a while yet by the looks of the forecast.
Happy new year to all for 2018 and hopefully our crops will be profitable for us all. More so, stay healthy and safe throughout the year ahead.

Looked at the winter barley (Infinity) at the trials site this afternoon.
Very happy with it. It’s sprayed and you’d struggle to find a weed in it.
Looks really healthy, not too advanced, clean and just starting to push out tillers.

About 14/15 stone i think, I think the field been in such good order meant if grew well, sowed the same in another field abs Doesbt look as thick

Infinity winter barley at around 320 plants/m2. Few headland patches getting a bit yellow from all the rain.

Tillering away nicely.

Barley is doing well despite the wet. Lovely and clean as well. The later then usual sowing date worked very well

Any point in applying compound to the winter barley before any snow comes? If we get snow it could be weeks before conditions are as good again to spread. Or could there be potentially be damage done from a reaction to sub zero temps and fert on the barley? Just trying to plan ahead!

I’m planning to spread my bit on Tuesday (looks the calmest day) while the ground is firm. The Fertiliser will wait there till the crop can use it (its getting a bit hungry now).

Planning on getting it out on mine this week as well. I walked some of it yesterday and I couldn't believe how good the tramlines are. Is it to soon to go out on oats with compound?.

Not sure what to do myself, it got 2 bags of 5/6/35 down the spout, the field with the winter barley is on a hill so I would be a little afraid of run off if we get a lot of snow.... I will be getting two bags of 10/10/20. Maybe I’ll chance it on Tuesday and hopefully we won’t get to much snow. Have oats that have nothing got yet. Wouldn’t be in a panic with the oats but the wheat is thin , it also got the same fert down the spout but it needs a wake up call to get it going.

Got it out here on Fri & Sat, dry ground and you could hardly make out where the tractor had been afterwards, that east wind has done unbelievable drying the past few days.

Put 2 bags of 10 24 24 on yesterday, followed by manganese - strangely not windy up here on Saturday.
Blew a gale all day today, hopefully it'll calm down tomorrow & I'll get some post em herbicide on tomorrow - there was no chance since sowing..

If it’s dry no, you will damage crop and hard frosts might not do it any favours
