Winter wheat 2020

I was speaking with a farmer from Essex yesterday. He told me he had broadcast his wheat and harrowed the fields with a wide tripple k . undressed seed and a few hundred acres involved.smart or not?

Cant see why not, I have seen loads of fabulous crops sown with this method @Bog Man calls it the North Cork method

Ha Ha great name for that farmer in the video "John Muirhead"

I could watch those old videos for ever.

John Muirhead and his neighbour both have Scottish names, they must have moved down at some point.

I love his attention to detail.

That’s heavy ground, broadcasting as he did would be a good way of covering heavy ground before it got wet.
He’s using treated seed, broadcasting treated seed would be illegal nowadays.
He is broadcasting it in an accurate way compared to a disc spreader.

He obviously did a lot of things right to be getting those yields.

Wheat is hardy. Here's a bit where there was water on a headland that got traffic earlier and the hedge cutter made a mess. I wouldn't advocate field scale messing but also I wouldn't delay a whole field for a messy headland or corner in a year like this.
