The demise of Discount

AIB, with the last few months, are throwing up the name on the receivers bank account if it doesn't match exactly which is a help.
It's a big help, to ensure the money is going to the right account. You do need the full iban though. Some of my contractors have changed ibans this year when going vat registered.

Aib banking app is terrible, especially on an android phone. Had a lad from aib in my house a few weeks ago sorting oh accounts. He couldn't get over how bad it is. I've to use eldest lads iPhone to do simple stuff on our partnership account as it wont work on android

I actually find it ok? I use their personal online banking and business version.

People complain about the little code handheld gadgets but I think they are good from an anti fraud point of view.

I've an AIB business account and a BOI personal account and an android phone. I find the AIB app is better than the BOI one but that might be down to the business/personal nature of the accounts.

Didn’t realise how good Ulster Bank was until I had to move to PTSB, PTSB business account has no mobile app so you can only use the laptop, can’t switch between between personal accounts and business accounts on the laptop either. It’s a joke of a on line bank.
What are PTSB like for a business POV, was chatting to them last week and going meeting the business manager

Use revulot here for the business current account, and its a gift. Well it’s what all banking apps should do, transfer money easy, reference easily and have a simple search facility

Ya same here, a pure dose how they’re not all on the app, though you can go into the business account on the phone, just switch it to desktop mode.

As a business they are fine, have a branch in the town always quite never a queue. Can pretty much walk in off the street to talk to someone, some banks you’ll be waiting a week for appointment.

If I remember right they made me jump through a few unnecessary hoops to get the business account set up, my account is just for a part time farm, I think when I initially set up with ulsterbank I just called into the branch and told them I wanted to set up an account for the farm, it was just done pretty much straight away.
They took over the old ulsterbank branch in my local town, but I had to travel 40 miles to meet the business manager in another branch to “discuss my business needs”, was all a bit unnecessary but it got sorted in the end.

Not really, especially when you are given an incomplete iban, ibans change or you haven’t received a bill

I'd have dealt with a share of people whose eyes would glaze over when you mentioned an IBAN but would have their own chequebook in the door of the lorry/van.

A snap of the number across the bottom of a cheque and you have the account no and then IBAN is easy from there.

Not quite, the iban prefix can be different for accounts held with the same bank, as I discovered recently 😅

That’s probably because they knew you preferred stout.
The boss of a place I used to buy doses etc off came out to collect money off me one time. Neither of us knew the exact amount owed so gave him 150, which was about 30 more than I owed. About 12 months later I went into the shop to buy boluses and there was no record of the 30 quid they owed me. I had some job to persuade the cu@t behind the counter that I was owed 30 euro. He didn’t even own the business. I’ve been buying all my doses and boluses online since.
I was settling an account one December, got handed a bottle of Jamieson in a box, thanks a lot, when I took it out of the box it was 2/3 full...

Reminds me of when i went into local merchant to buy some dose for cattle. The guy behind the counter wanted xx amount and i told him he was too dear and he said that was the price and would not budge. I then brought him to the entrance door and showed him the price of the same dose on the poster there which was around 25% cheaper. He was not long pulling in his horns.

See revolut have no payback system if you're scammed. A man brought them to court over a 10k scam and he lost. Another woman got a scam call, while busy , and they maxed out her revolut credit card. She can't claim it back as she gave permission apparently

There was something regarding Revolute on the radio, a chap lost €980 and no come back. I don’t have revolute but my wife does. Apparently it’s handy for the teenager in the house.

Would visa provide more protection from scamming?

Yes, any irish bank has better resources and cover than revolut and credit card is the best bet from a fraud cover point of view

That was always my understanding. Don't use Revolut here either, and the teenagers are funded with cash, apart from my own aversion to technology I think it gives them a better grasp of the idea of money as a real thing rather than some kind of abstract concept on a screen.

Revolut didnt really work for us, youngest lad was using oh face id for his and oh died, so when he got a new phone he couldn't use face id and can't access his revolut. Opened an aib account for him. Daughter uses my email address for hers so I can't have a revolut account

Absolutely, the level of financial literacy in ireland is one of the lowest in the world and it can only get worse for younger people as the direct connection to money is long gone now

I think i said it here before but once or twice I've moved to 100% cash for day to day expenses.a week or two handing out 50 quid notes and going to the atm would open your eyes to what you're really spending. Frightening
