I used mine for the 1st time of 2020 today :rolleyes2: I wasn’t expecting it for a couple of days.
Senior management bought it unknown to me . Gave it to me for Valentines Day 3 years ago.
I probably would have thought it a waste of time , but count it invaluable now . You aren’t going to use it for every calf , but when you are “ caught out “ , it’s a gift .
You bring the barrow in to the calf , leaving the handles either side of the calf , with the calf’s head facing away . You catch the 2 back legs and pull it into the barrow on its back . It’s head is left hanging down , draining any fluid out of the calf’s lungs . It is in the ideal position to wash the calf’s navel/ put iodine on it . When you get to the shed , you “ tip “ the calf out of the barrow , and it usually lands lying on its hunkers.
No one can afford to put their back out lifting or dragging a calf at this time of the year . who would replace you ?
