Although they where all bulled later last year, hence the later calving this year(usually all calved by December) the calves this year are having a great kickstart. This was born on Monday at 5pm,was up and sucking within 25 minutes, was out on the field by 9am Tuesday morning and running around

You , and plenty of others could be looking for more beet to feed in the coming weeks if the weather carries on as it is .
I made half an effort to sell it about a month ago, I don’t think I could have given it away at the time, but as you say that could all change fairly fast now.

Have a few shorthorns. Grass fed all the way. The red lad in the last pic was 24 months in May and weighed 550kg when he got to grass at the end of march. He will be slaughtered in another month. The others are all 24 months in September and we're all around the 450kg mark when they got to grass and if they keep going the way that they are going, should be fit for slaughter in September.

Just in from calving this cow, have two left to calve due to a bull malfunction last summer. Biggest calf I've seen in a while, got stuck at the hips and was touching the ground at that stage. Gave her the 2 litres of colostrum via tube and it went down the tube in about 20 seconds. Some calf.

Are they supposed to be there?
Very short of grass because of the drought, I let them out onto the closed farm road to graze the verges, clean it up, for a couple of hours, while myself and the dog kept an eye on them. I was hoping to avoid have to graze the hay meadow, but they move over there tomorrow. They won't use it properly, but at least they will have food.

They call that grazing the long acre round here.
