Every baler in the county was busy on Tuesday I imagine.
Sure wasn't a hay day around here, grass never dried all day despite no rain.i see some lads baled hay today. be some stuff!

yup small squares. be some froth leaving them in due time! You what?
Weren't you looking for good hay ozzy.......You what?
A shame I couldn't get it all , cos those 2 bales turned out to be the finest haylage I had this year and the horses munched through every stalk. Hopefully will have better luck this summer.Well there was 2 bales done which have been wrapped so at least I will know what it would have turned out like had we suceeded in baling it.
Yes but you'd want ideal weather for that to work, rain after the fert and a bit for the 6 growing weeks after. It'd be short though I'd say.Sorry dragging up an old thread here but
has anyone cut silage in say early to mid May and then cut HAY later in the summer? Would you be talking 8 weeks after the silage as enough time for the hay? So mid July?

And would that mean harder to save with the soft grass?Often done 2nd cut hay
Generally softer grass and softer bales
Not too much nitrogen in it, about 60 units after the silageVery very hard to do in a normal Irish summer whatever that is anymore. Have you much nitrogen on it? The More N in it the harder it is
Well sure it's like this, if you get the weather it could be cut after 8 weeks. I'd have the wrapper on call though as you could get caught bit that wont be the end of the world. Any fodder will be wanted this year I thinkNot too much nitrogen in it, about 60 units after the silage
Only if made wrong..Realistically its a waste, the hay be inclined to go musty no matter how good you save it..!

how long after the silage would it need?

Misty because it’s after grass so too leafy and won’t be able to dry it properly??Realistically its a waste, the hay be inclined to go musty no matter how good you save it..!
