We have a 3rd of our spring cows calved nowout of curiosity, how big is your herd? 18 calves in the space of a week would drive us mental, not a mind a day or 2
The old cure for retained cleanings was to feed them beastings . On the other hand if they did not let down milk you fed them the cleanings .Started yesterday 18 calved now 3 retained cleaning so upping the mag a bit
Would iodine or selimum not be the issue for retained cleanings unless you have underlying sub milk fever problemStarted yesterday 18 calved now 3 retained cleaning so upping the mag a bit

280 calving down but won't milk that many. So we have a long way to go yet .out of curiosity, how big is your herd? 18 calves in the space of a week would drive us mental, not a mind a day or 2
We always seem to start with a big burst. A bit of Jersey still in the herd hence the extra mag.with tight calving we have to react fast or we would have some serious f##k ups .speaking from past experiences. Paddy mc is due in the yard Saturday morning to go through things anyway18 on the first day must be some sort of a record.
If they are only calved a max of 24 Hours would you not be a little premature thinking they held cleanings already and you have an issue?
For how long before calving?Upped by 60 grams a cow .it's mag flakes we use
This lad born this morning. After a big feed of milk he decided to sleep like this.
We will soon have nothing to help animals when they are sick.Got a text from our vet that effydral is being discontinued. Great product for weak calves. I ordered some today
If I were milking I'd say I'd go shorthorn or something abit different. This little red head landed this morning. Makes a change of looking at black and white
Nothing worse than high Potassium silage for giving issues. Our due date was 7th Feb. They started a bit early. 97 calved to date.
Silage is high in potassium so cows are getting magnesium chloride pre calving and any older cows or anything that looks like it needs it (fat or thin) gets a calcium bolus just after calving. Had just 1 case of fever so far. Se got 2 bottles under the skin, 2 boluses and a stomach pump over the space of 12hrs.....she was out grazing yesterday so is back to herself.
