Winter oats 2021

That's my most forward field but there is not much in it. Given the forecast, I might finish it all off on Tuesday now and shut the gate.
Mine could do with waiting till the end of the week, but I am on a 2 spray program and it needs to be on now.

I'd have to check my book but I'm overdue on that score, definitely wasnt sprayed last in May. It's very clean thus far though

The advice seems to be to spray when the head is half out rather than waiting until its fully emerged, a bit like barley at the paintbrush stage. Yours looks to be at that now.

It's gone beyond that even. On average 75% emerged now I reckon.

You’re out late Ger, would you not be concerned about spraying a crop with dew on it? Back in the days of sugar beet I noticed a few times when spraying beet that the last thank put on late in the evening when the dew was on the crop didn’t work as well as what was sprayed earlier.

No.
I would have no worries about the dew.
Still have 3 fields to go.

I thought you were waiting till Tuesday!!

Finished all of my own tonight too, too good of an evening to let it pass. Gates closed in a few fields so.

Sorry for the short reply, I was still spraying.
I am not worried too much about a heavy dew in this case for a few reasons.
The main reason is the massive canopy in the Oats crop, even if there is a bit of run-off the crop will catch it on the 2nd leaf.
Elatus is rainfast in 1hour.
I am spraying at 100L/ha.
The self propelled is way higher, so is not brushing off the spray by hitting oats after it has been sprayed, a trailed or mounted sprayer on a tractor, this can be got around by spraying from the middle out, but with the self propelled I don't even need that.
I hear what you are saying about spraying BLW in beet, late in the evening most broadleaf plants close up their leaves at night, so much less contact area to hit, also if there is any run-off with small leaves the spray only has to move a couple of mm and is off the leaf and onto a tiny stem which will not hold it.
I meant to start a few hours earlier, but there was an on-shore wind up till 8pm, just as I was leaving the house the light in the kitchen blew, so had to fix that, then I had a few small issues with the sprayer when I started it, which held me up further.

Saw this in the distance a small river and 2 over grown hedges between me and it, so pic not wonderful. Don't know the story, when I sowed the barley beside it was rolled in the frost, don't know what else happened it. It be expensive rented ground for whoever has it. :no:20210601_200731.jpg

I have a thundering good field of Isabel Oats .

A few blind grains in some of the Isabel but it looks good to me. We will hardly be cutting it in a month.
A bit of volunteer winter wheat in it .

Husky after spring wheat looks better than the Isabel. Winter wheat leaves very little in the ground in comparison with poor spring wheat.
The spray miss of shortener the Husky is over six foot high.

Husky has turned strong here in the past week. Hard to know if it will be there before the August bank holiday though.
