Sheep and cattle love it, spraying it wouldn't be worth it, but if you must all dock sprays will kill it.

My father took on a bit of rough ground recently that hasn't been grazed in about 5 years for a variety of reasons. There is a marshy bit of a bottom in it and im wondering what weed this is, never seen it before with a flower like this, is it knotweed by any chance? Was thinking of mulching it but perhaps that will do more harm than good?

Easy to kill, regular cutting or grazing will kill it, most sprays will kill it as far as I know.

Yeah - I thought we are meant to be encouraging more Herbal leys for the environment, animal health etc.

Any idea of what this weed is ? It’s in a field of phacelia / vetch cover crop and looks a bit like knot grass or bindweed. It’s all over the field but sparsely. TIA

That’s Buckwheat.

We have cover crop plots sown between Shanagarry & Cloyne, The Buckwheat is flowering just like that.

Thanks John, that’s a relief. I was worried it might be something like Japanese knot grass. It will go some small way to making my 2 way mix into a planet saving 7 way magic mix !

Looks like cow parsley which is harmless and cattle like eating it. Hemlock looks quite similar but has a terrible stink off it and it very poisonous.

I always thought cow parsley had a hollow stalk but this has a solid one and hard to break ,it took me a while to pull them this morning there was about 10 growing in an area in a field where the cows were going

Cow parsley has an almost solid stem, very small hole in the centre of the stem. Around here it doesn’t tend to grow out the field much usually in kind of shaded areas. Can be a bit of a curse shorting the fence in fields that have been stopped for silage.

Have something similar growing on the banks of drains, seems to be getting more plentiful.
