What are you up to in the workshop?

2.5mm rods can make a job like that, allows you 15-20 amps less than a 3.2
Tis what I am on.
Just can't get a consistant burn on.
Thinking the floor is just crap steel.
I cheaped out and bought 2mm plate. Should have gone far thicker tbh. But the stockist only had 1.5 or 2mm on the shelf...

Had a bit of a disaster whilst cleaning the grain trailer out.
Seems the sides are in worse nick than expected and the pressure washer went straight through.
Just where the edges fold in.

Trying to weld patches from the floor upwards is proving difficult.
Don't think the floor is Hardox (old West trailer)
But is very rusty (cleaned as good as can with flappy disk) and thin in bits.
Just not getting as clean a weld as I'd like with the stick welder.

Any advice?
Bolt a bit of light flat steel bar to the side & a bit of angle to the floor then weld to that?
We have a couple pf patches stuck on with silicone on 1 of the grain trailers as it's held water & is rotten.

Got the job down a bit better today.
Problem I have is I'm basically following a weld. Likely a mig weld, so it's bound to be tough going.

Plenty concentration on the weld and just touch the sheet a bit to bring it in. Not pretty but will do

Road drive belt started to disintegrate in the combine finishing the winter barley. Broke 8 years ago on a roundabout in Portlaoise.

View attachment 111241Wouldn't it be great if you could finish every day with the same number of holes you had at the start of it?

Feckin burr on a bit of pipe where there used to be a keeklamp.
Mentioning burrs reminds me of a a engineering and fabrication shop I worked in years ago, the stores were ran by a guy called Ray who was meticulous about keeping the place tidy and organised . If I was looking for a length of steel bar or tube Ray would usually let me cut whatever lengths I needed but he insisted that the unused length had its cut end deburred with a grinder that hung by the saw especially for the job .
Woe betide anyone that didn't do this !!!
