All things Wooly!

Few pound less in the the back pocket so. It's showing up on agfood anyways, first but of money here this year as no biss or anc paid out. Its welcome.
No SIS money here yet but I'm a late entrant. Hoping they will let me in this year as I bought a SIS eligible ram this year.

What's the store lamb trade like lads? A very poor year down this way for cover crops and grazing of what few are average.

Hot enough for the better of them round here. Some serious faith in the job going by the market reports locally.
But saying that there are plenty landing in the store pens that are fit to send straight on the hook, many a lad just won't bother checking!

Just chatting a lad a few minutes about lambs in Kingscourt two lots of 33 kg at 76 and 77 euro now his words were they were rumbly enough lads

Running three groups at the moment. Weighing ewe lambs. A lot of them are close to the weight but not quite there yet. My average ewe mature weight is 70kg, so aiming for 42kg weight before letting ewe lambs to the ram.

A few ewe lambs with the new ram. The main mob with the hogget ram.

Is 42kg a bit on light side for going to ram? Always aimed for 48 to 50kg here for lleyn x Texel. Maybe easycares are bit different, I wouldn't be familiar with them. I've a notion in my head that too light at first lambing never last too long in flock, no hard facts but just what I'd see here

In basing it on research and they went well this year, no problem putting weight on.

The research is based off the mature ewe weight. What are your mature weights?

Lightest here be low 70's ,there's ewes here 90+, not many. Average just under 80 or thereabouts . I didn't actually realise easycares were as light of a mature weight!
As a matter of interest when were your replacements born? Was there any meal fed to them up to this point or grass fed only?
A fit 42kg lamb would be preferable to a poor 48kg lamb all the same regardless of breed

Easycares tend to be 60-65kg mature weight. The flock I bought were breeding out from other breeds, mostly belcare. I'm breeding with easycare rams so I'd imagine the mature weights will come down a bit over time.

Replacements were born mid march to mid may. Only two of my home bred ewe lambs haven't made the weight, they are 38 and 40.5 kg respectively.

No meal fed. I'm trying to run a simple grassfed system and produce a very functional sheep.

You are spot on there.

I kinda see the easycares as a slightly lighter lleyn that sheds.

What ram are you putting to them

The replacements? A 5 star terminal/replacement easycare ram.

The main mob is being served by a hogget easycare ram I bought last year. I got him genotyped recently, just waiting on the results to come back. I'll be performence recording properly this coming season so will have proper figures for him then.

@Scruffy91 met yan lad from the North with the triple decker rigid in town earlier heading back north after been in athleague with lambs, must be a good shot of them still coming down
