Ash dieback

That's bad news, we haveca nice sheltered bit on a lane lined with a mix of Ash, beech and sceachs.

The ash will be going and if the beech go, it will be very bare and to think we are importing sceachs of questionable quality. Do we ever learn.

We have , or At least had an awful lot of Ash trees here . Huge amount of them have died. I got 9 roadside one knocked in November 2022.

Now to add to the loss , the beech trees seem to be going the same way .

The beach trees on the boundary between us are dead a good few years now . I noticed a comple of very big ones in a rented place look to be starting to go now too

I know that , and they are in the background of my stock picture photo .
These ones are in the line , a field across from you . They were dead last year , but lumps falling off . The dead ones may come down .
Between beech and Ash, they'd be a huge proportion of trees on this farm .

The landscape will change a lot on many Irish farms.if all the ash or most of them go.
They are the vast majority of trees around here, with the possible exception of old estates.that planted other species.
It will be an awful pity and something that may never be fully reversed.

similar around here, light land and lots of ash. They were doing okay up to this Spring, but what's come out so far has been pretty pitiful. I really noticed it in a field of silage I raked last week with allot of ash on the headlands, the amount of small ends of ash branches in the first sward was unbelievable.

local forest a mile away, the 25yr old ash are all gone, and a neighbour cut six roadside ash, that I though were fine but having seen them cut, they were all well gone in the centre. such a pity

A few of us were chatting on another forum last night,

Ivy taking over every where and green algae covering everything. Ivy growing on walls it was never before.

Japanese knotweed another scourge. We thought we had it nipped following advise from the experts. 5 years later it's sprouting again.

As far as I can see, every ash tree is now dead on our farm. Last year most sprouted a few leaves near the top but this year i have been examining them closely and they aren't even sprouting a bud. There's smaller branches falling off them.

It's quite ironic to hear the environmentalists spouting about rewilding, rewetting and biodiversity. This is a monumental fcuk up for the environment.

Do you know what, they can stick it up their hole, it wouldn't pay to remove the dead ash..

Ash dieback

Separately the Sinn Féin spokesperson on Agriculture, Claire Kerrane, has queried how the climate performance action payment of €5,000/ha will be paid out to impacted ash plantation owners.

Deputy Kerrane said the government did not initially specify that the payment will “in fact be paid in three instalments with the final two paid four to five years after the initial one”.

She believes that this may be “misleading” for landowners who may have expected a payment of €5,000 “in one go”.

Deputy Kerrane said the the climate performance action payment of €5,000/ha will take the form of “an initial payment of €2,500 once a site is cleared and re-planted, and at the end of the premium, four years later, a payment of €1,250 and a further payment of €1,250 a year later”.

The ineptness of Ms Hackett knows no bounds

Question regarding roadside trees.
I have a line of them some.of which are hanging over the road,I'd like to cut them for safety but want to know if I need a letter of some sort? I spoke to a local council foreman and he said the council don't care if it's a safety issue. I'm thanking it might not be that cut and dried and I'm sure some.of you have surely come across this problem before

Did a bit of research and basically anything road side or within 10m or 30m of the house your ok to cut any time for safety, without having to get a felling license etc. But the house rule you can only cut the trees if they were planted after the house was built.

We're away for a few days atm but my son had a guy looking for possible hurl buts yesterday. Felled a fairly good looking one in an area not badly affected by die back. Same story brown in the middle and useless.

Looks like my all pension plan will go up the chimney. Waiting for a fellow with a croc to take out a section for firewood. He's booked out.
