Covid 19

There were no new cases in Carlow yesterday and Kilkenny had two days with no new cases . Lots of the neighbors in their seventies have been vaccinated. Testing in Nursing homes has found 0.1% which I think is one in a 1000 positive. Weather is improving so should help. The intensive contact tracing and low numbers should isolate it more.
There might be a blip from socialising at Easter and schools are going back next week. People might let down their Guard .

I am hoping the worst is over
Some relatives of mine work in the health service. Talking to them recently and they are fairly confident that the worst is over. They are concerned that there is a risk of a spike in late April or May, but beyond that, we will see half of the population vaccinated by June 1st and half a million people fully vaccinated each month after that. In another week we will see the rules being relaxed for those that are vaccinated and then as we all receive our vaccines, we will be able to mix with other people safely.

Even if its august or September when I get my vaccine, if I see the the rest of the country getting back to some normality I will be happy enough - I don't feel that my life has changed that much because of the restrictions anyway.

You should be able to get back on the golf course too now that the spring workload is easing..

The worrying thing is that the disease might have run its course and all the restrictions and behavior modifications might just have clipped it around the edges. TB was on the decline when all the sanatoriums were built.
The only time I will be on a golf course is with a plough.
It's called a sandwedge

Have mowed and baled parts of the golf course beside us every year.enjoy driving up the fairways eith the tractor and conditioner.fekking danger though with golf balls in the grass going through the conditioner.
Get strange looks heading up the main fairway.dont be in any particular hurry either , just to piss them off a bit

Carlow golf course wouldn't lend itself to tillage..

All,
Apologies for coming across a bit simple on this but I haven’t been paying much heed to the travel restrictions as I never had cause to go anywhere since this pandemic began. I think the furthest I have been was about 16 miles to take my wife to hospital for an appointment.
I live in Northern Ireland and want to buy a tractor in the south of Ireland with a friend, we would be willing to buy sight unseen but the dealer would rather we seen them beforehand.
What restrictions are there currently in place on travel in the Republic and how many per vehicle etc? If it is a hassle we will either insist on buying sight unseen or pass on this one.
Thanks in advance.

You can travel for essential business, and farming fits that category. If you are stopped there isn't much they can do. Fill your tank before you leave, bring the sandwiches with you and ask the dealer to leave the tractor out in the open for you to look at.

And maybe a email from garage saying you are going to view the machine also.

Technically there is a 5km limit at the moment, more honoured on the breach than the observance.

I find any of the guards Ive encountered reasonable amd if you are reasonable they will be reasonable back. Of course there is always the odd bollox like Any walk of life.
I would advise to go and see the tractor and not buy unseen.
I would advise
When Coming to a checkpoint that the two of ye are wearing masks and make a point of saying g that ye have the windows a bit open for ventilation - this shows ye are conscious of covid as opposed to being indifferent to it.
Explain that you are coming into silage season or such like amd that you have to buy a tractor as your old one is broken/gearbox gone etc and is not economic to repair/can’t be repaired in time. That the work you are doing is essential work amd time dependant as in you can’t wait till September to do the silage ... all the while being pleasant and trilling your sad story of woe.
the main thing is to have a reasonable excuse for travelling in excess of 5km which I believe you do.

Bring the masks and hand sanitiser. The less people in the car the better. If you are all from the one family/living together there should be no need to be wearing masks in the car or having windows open. If your bringing 4 neighbours that just fancy a day out you might be in trouble. An email or any communication from the garage confirming appointment would be good. Simply answer the q you are asked by Gardai. Wouldnt go off justifying why you need a tractor unless asked. I would say I am going to X garage to purchase a tractor, as opposed to viewing a tractor. Straight there and straight back. Presuming you are not travelling the length of the country. Be sensible and maintain social distancing.

I always keep a water bill and a copy of DAERA correspondence in the vehicles to prove that I am a farmer travelling between my land. Also remember to take you green vehicle insurance card when you are going to be driving in Eire.

1 in a million chance of getting a blood clot from AZ, 1 million doses achieved today and the first case of clotting..

Went from Wexford up to Downpatrick yesterday for work and didn’t get stopped once or even see a checkpoint. A text from the seller of the tractor will suffice.
Have also been to Waterford and Tipperary on separate occasions and both times got stopped at three checkpoints. Once I mentioned farming or agriculture there wasn’t an issue. As mentioned worth having a mask in the car as you will probably want to stop for a coffee and bite to eat along the way

It's not so much that cases are going down. The really good news is that despite the cases dropping very very slowly, the hostpital and ICU numbers keep going down.

The people most likely to get really sick and die are being vaccinated and the effects are visible already.

if they can get the vaccine supply to ramp up then things should keep going in the right direction.
