Daily weather forecast update

I think we missed the worst of the wind even though we were red alert for a couple of hours. Heavy rain for a few hours before dawn.

I’ll get no thanks if it’s accurate and a kicking if it’s inaccurate but here goes:

there are signs of a change in the weather coming from around the 25th of this month.

The indication is high pressure building from the south with jet stream running further north from where it’s been stuck in recent months.

This looks like it could last a couple of weeks.

It would mean dry & cool.

I’ve a lot less confidence in long term weather forecasts than I would have a few years ago, they just don’t seem to be as accurate. The change mentioned above has been indicated with a while so Im a bit more optimistic.

We are gone so far over our average rainfall in the south that the probability of something like this has to be fairly high.

I would be more concerned about climate change if there was no rain In Leitrim.
bring it on a mhac
we d be growing maize barley and wheat and be a force to be reconded with, Costa del liatroim, the banana belt may only have brambles blowing across the grain belts then if that happened

What would your attitude to climate refugees from the Banana Belt .
we of course we take back exiles that moved to the belt followed by whiskey lovers and others that aren't straight laced fully law abiding citizens that see no harm in enjoyment and slight flexing of the rules, and that would advise us on our new found fortunes.
would you qualify

Any farmer with reasonable stock numbers in the county has had a problem with ground being poached with cattle. We had no option, ot was either house them or let then eat grass and most chose a bit of both. Someone on this forum said a few years back that the only cure for poached ground was dry weather. I'd agree with that - dry weather levels it all out. But we have had so much rain since the cattle were housed that my land, certainly, has been washed flat. I thought I was going to have a seriousnproblem next spring to try to repair the damage but i wont. The problem is that soil is so saturated, I don't know how or when it will be dried out for grazing next spring. Its likely that we will repoach ground when they get out again.

For those that are recording daily rainfall what are ye using, an excel spreadsheet, something else or is the an app for the phone ?

my met eireann one is still a pen n paper job that they supply with a Christmas card every year , the automatic stations info goes direct to glasnevin

Big high pressure building after Tuesday, staying mild for a time.cloudy though according to BBC there now.

Would a empty bucket not do for the rain gauge job & dip your tape in every time? Has that gauge above to be ground level or elevated & isolated?

bucket needs to be the same width top and bottom and not sheltered by a wall ,roof, trees etc and be up off the ground about a foot

https://www.wunderground.com I find Wunderground very useful, once you have a Weather station nearby. How reliable the data is I'm not sure, obviously I'd trust the official met Eireann ones better, but once I started using this I stopped bothering with myown rain gauge and the effort of having to keep manual records etc.

Pulling the monthly data out of my local station, 1212mm year to date, with 750mm since 1st of July. Our yearly average is generally in around 8 or 900mm, I wouldn't be surprised if this year beats the record for highest yearly rainfall.
