Is there still a big demand and prices on incalf cows and heifers? I might offload a few if I thought there was.
Having no luck here, re selling incalf heifers, got okay money for a batch of 10 late calving/empty cows, at 1750 euro in the yard last week...

There is always a demand for heifers! But prices dropped back from high 2s to low 2s.
They did and they didn't. The best heifers are sold now. The heifers with lesser figures and in some cases, frames come out of the woodwork after the best are sold. Same with any type of animals which are to be sold really. So the best heifers are naturally going to have commanded higher prices anyways. There's an odd exception maybe where lads weren't organised scanning wise etc earlier on but in general what's for sale now is middle of the road stock.

I advertised a few a while back and got no serious interest and I wasn't looking for strong money anyways. So if anyone wants a few march calving cows and heifers or emptys there still there

Price only going one way, there's 5 cent coming off Oct milk I'm told and possibly more cuts to November. Still making ok money but can't see them holding. Beef price will put a floor in them though

Christ. That'll be a base price of 38/39 cent. Where will it bottom out at?

Have you been recording issues on ICBF? This is what COW (Cow Own Worth) is maddddde for but it needs input from the herd owner. I think the best profile to go to is milk recording SCC on ICBF and you’ll see their full history of SCC.
If you’ve pregnancy recorded then you add this to it.

But imo the best thing is to go through your cows and think what issues have each of them
Can’t use COW or at least it’s no good for winter calving

What are Dairygold going to do?

I see O Neil dairy farm have done their budget for 2026 on 35c I thinks that’s very optimistic myself
Thats their breakeven milk price not budgeted price in their business plan, its a work of fiction their teagasc advisor done up to get the bank loan for the cubicle house/calf shed, with the loan for that plus existing milking parlour loan they constantly go on about and say 60-70k for drawings, working of their 700k of milk delivered in 2024, their actual c/l variable costs would have to be sub 20c/l and thats hard to fathom

It’s hard to fathom that they built that new shed and Didn’t get their house in order to apply for a grant and only the best of stuff gone into it, would it be done for 250k?

When glanbia only paid once a month it used to be a race between them and lakelands to come out with the price first. Also can they not just announce the price in 1 sentence rather than an essay, base price is whatever, no need for other crap to be said. Edited to add including vat. There's no need to say what the average price paid out is as solids is the farmer's work not the co op

Oh definitely yea, There is only 1 way out of this and I think we will be giving our milk for free with the trocaire boxes next year to the black babies in Botswana and it will be brought here by a few 7600 fords that are fcuked and gone for export.
