Dairying

Oh definitely yea, There is only 1 way out of this and I think we will be giving our milk for free with the trocaire boxes next year to the black babies in Botswana and it will be brought here by a few 7600 fords that are fcuked and gone for export.

You had a pop at me when I said milk would drop 10c. It’s already gone 7 and going by Lakeland, the big boys will drop another 3c at least bit more likely 4c. That’s 11c easily go another 5c for November and December.

I wish them all the best with the shed most farms have a good buffer built up this year in my head I would plan for the worst and hope for the best.

Anyway I think weather is more of concern for me, higher up my priority list as it were 👍

Where do you think milk price will be next April may?

Not a clue, 99% of milk suppliers don’t know either as it’s all only a guess.

No offence but what do you want it to tell you? Surely be to god you know how to sort cows by 305 day yield of KGMS or cell count cow fairly easily? Then pick any lame cows. What do you want it to tell you??
I didn’t see anywhere previously that I could download an icfb excel- this will help, all the other reports I seen were hard coded and mixed so it made it difficult.

spot on, batten down the hatches and ride the storm , nobody seems to realise that calves are making 300 euro more than last year and culls are easily up 300 so its not all doom and gloom
Don’t bother switching on the milking parlour and buy a couple of sucks for each cow. Retire at the end of the year.

In the MSA’s - do you have to supply in a low priced year? Are they just a case of - if supplying, you have to supply us

We survived 2014 and 2009, and neither them years had as good financial years previously (22, 24 and 25 have been exceptional). Wet weather years always take a much bigger toll I find.

And now that I think about, both 2014 and 2009 we had the bloody quotes in the previous years so we couldn't even drive on production in the good years like we can now.

I don't think they do, but I guess you could supply one collection of just over the minimum 250l needed to send out the lorry, and you got all bases covered 🤣.

On a more serious note tho, as much as we all bitch about our own processors, thank god they do always collect and pay for every last litre, no matter how big or small a collection, many countries have a base contract then only get paid spot price above that, and you also got things like this, the french organic processor just letting go of 270 milk supplies: https://www.dairyglobal.net/industr...illion-liters-less-from-french-dairy-farmers/

Things were a lot cheaper in 2009 and 14 tho

Remember being at a funeral in 2014 or 15 , whenever the last bad price was. Anyway was chatting to a part time beef and sheep farmer who didn't work off farm .
He was telling me the dairy men were in big trouble.
When I told him there was still a margin in it for most lads, he cold hardly enjoy his egg salad sandwich and luke warm tea.

Wouldn't concern me anyway, did a bunch of heifers the other day varying in age up to well in calf and I wouldn't consider it any more stressful than getting them into the crush for any other job

Just checked the milkedn app. for our price

Oct 2025. 52.4 c/ltr
Oct 2024. 57.2 c/ltr
Oct 2022. 81.9. c/ltr

Some change in 3 years.
Had to go back to 2019 to find a base price of 29c on tirlain statement, to see what bf/pr payments where, .31bf and .63pr, at a 29-30 cent base for the year, 4.5bf/3.65pr solids would barely scrape 35 c/l....
23 which was a tough year, the tirlian price was circa 44 cent at average co-op solids, how co-ops think the average supplier will come through next year without been in a financial blackhole beats me
