Dehorning 6month old calves

Vet was out other day squeezing calves while doing that we dehorned 8 calves with the wire. All done reasonably handy and no drama. I’m now a bit concerned about flys and maggots, they are not overly handy to a crush and I was wondering if jeyes fluid sprayed on them would keep flys away. Before they were brought in there seemed to be very few flys about and now it seems they are coming here on holiday.

There’s a silver aluminium spray you can get that might do the job, tar is ideal but awful messy

The blue spray from vet is good for that, but you may get them into crush to do thdm

I’d guess the vet probably already used alu spray after pulling veins? Stockholm tar is available in a spray can and definitely keeps flys away for a day or 2
