Different cabs than usual

I know we have featured a number of tractors with different cabs on the "Seen for Sale" thread over the past few weeks.

So,

A question cab to suit a 3 cyl Ford that is fully enclosed.

That rules Fritzmeir, Duncan, Ford Safety Cab and Lambourne canvas cab out.

The other Lambourne cab

Duncan fitted this cab on Ford 4600's:
http://www.donedeal.ie/for-sale/tractors/4028837

But don't think that would work on a smaller tractor - were they fitted on smaller 3 cyl tractors.

Secura cab is also unlikely to work as they were for double reduction back ends in the main with disc brakes rather than drums.

So over to the learned....

when you say fully enclosed, do you mean the back, or are you talking about a proper floor too?

apart from the obvious ford Q cab from a 2600 or 3600 I think your only possible alternative is something from a massey 240?

Someone in the UK was selling off a batch of 240 cabs a few years back, saw an add in classic tractor for it, but cant remember who, went back looking for it and never found it again.

are the later 240 cabs fully enclosed?

I looked at putting a Q cab onto our 4600, you'd have to change almost everything that sticks out of the main castings. take a look at the parts books online and so many parts are different with or without the q cab.

I ended up putting a ford safety cab onto it. I intend on doing all I can to reduce the din with insulation, but at the end of the day I fully expect to need earmuffs for any decent work.

10 series cab? Or if you want a project to keep you busy modify a fiat cab????:whistling::whistling::lol::lol:

Yes, a full back window.

An LP cab would be ideal but the half shafts screw you I think.

Definitely not a Q cab anyway :sweatdrop:

240 is a good idea

what about the C & G cab, have ya any views on it?

Wouldn't be a fan to be honest and if this got "thunderbirds go" it would be done on the cheap.

Was thinking about that last night and was going to ask you what was on your 250! :D

Square back axle though?

Is it the same cab as on a 275?

Thats the very cab on my 250. It has a square axle, but the same cab does a round axle 240. Just different brackets I presume.
No, a 265, 275, 290 is a bigger cab and wont fit.

Be reeeeaally clever and get a jd sound guard cab on er! with the rounded windscreen! get up picture in Classic tractor at the same time!! ha!

Was looking at Cheffins there and yes I agree

Plenty of choice there of cab variants to be fair, both 240, 250 and MF 40.

As you say the 265 is a completely different cab.

Project Top Secret

:D:D

Just investigating some options.

Still looking for a donor for another :whistling:

You have it all wrong...Don't call it Project Top Secret because that will draw too much attention to yourself, call it after a star constellation.

Or...just get a massey and be done with it.

Project Mission Impossible so!

:no::no::thumbdown:

How dare you mention the M word!

Mike, is that the diesel filler cap inside the door

Also, can someone confirm (think I am right), that the Ford LP/AP cab was the same for all tractors but with different mounting brackets?

Certainly, FHM (sorry Classic Tractor) shows that too.

Only problem I see is how to incorporate manual power steering....

Not sure where you are seeing that, but the diesel filler cap is on the bonnet, there is a window washer filler behind the steering wheel in my one though.

Edit- Ah, here I guess. Yes thats the window washer bottle!

If you're considering something like this you really really need to register on the CNH parts book site.

it's the bees knees.

I'm registered alright - very useful as you say.

I did what you did last night for a 3910 and 6610 and as you say (I think!) - same cab just completely different mounts.
