The short answer is no it should not be put in as an expense in this year, especially if your year end is before the start of next years spreading season, it should be put in as stocks on hand, it can be checked at an audit.Does anyone know if you buy fertiliser now can it be used to cut your tax bill for this year. I was reading an article on agriland and it was saying fertiliser bought now won't cut your tax bill for 2021 as it's only seen as an asset because it can't be spread until 2022
Unfortunately the small bit I need to buy next year will still cost more than a typical year😪.The short answer is no it should not be put in as an expense in this year, especially if your year end is before the start of next years spreading season, it should be put in as stocks on hand, it can be checked at an audit.
But plenty of people do put in it.
Once you put it in one year you are committed to keep doing or you will have no Fert spend in one year.

As I work off farm the total tax bill for the two years will be the same, if I don't include it this tax I'll pay more tax this year but next years profits will be lower and I will pay less or claim back tax from my off farm income.
Great, they have my Fert in.Should be a day or twos spreading in this

Natural Gas is still 3 to 4 times higher than it's 5 year average price, it is way over priced still and will not in my opinion lead to a big drop in Fert prices for the foreseeable future.Price of gas dropping but oil on the rise. Any thoughts on are prices of fert going to drop or are they gonna stay the same or worse?
fert wont drop until at least may junePrice of gas dropping but oil on the rise. Any thoughts on are prices of fert going to drop or are they gonna stay the same or worse?
There is very little of it available for next season as far as I’m aware. Urea in general is very scarce.View attachment 100595
Might be of use when comparing prices when buying
