Hay 2022

Has anyone an idea of what hay is making loaded in the field ? I’m a bit premature as it isn’t baled yet but hopefully next week. Tia

What it’s making !
€150 /acre for meadow let locally,
€150 /acre for fertiliser and spray
€25 /acre to mow
€60/acre for 5 x tedding
€12/acre to rake
€54/acre to bale 12 bales
€20 /acre to load on truck
Add all that up and divide by 12 bales per acre and add a bit of a margin for stress of it and you would need €45 / bale minimum ideally €50.......

Sold 120 bales off the field for 30 a bale last week, have 26 acres down ourselves at the moment, if got one man will buy the lot at the same price,

Managed to get the rest of our own hay yesterday evening, 208 bales off 26 acres, no fert

Well done all. Fine looking crops all round. We cant seem to catch a break in this corner of the country at all.

@Masseyrk662 was the meadow grazed this spring?
I presume not when you got 8 bales per acre without fertilizer
Is that McHugh tractors in the background?
On prices I believe 40 has been paid for silage locally

Some money for the receiver of those prices along the list

Yes it is, the land belongs to them, we have it the last few years now always try to get hay in it, no cattle ever in the land, 2 cuts taken off it a year and that’s it

Is there demand for silage? A lad that I wrap bales for has bales advertised for 10 days at 30 euro each and hasn't had a call. There's going to be a lot more meadow saved around here, albeit lighter crops but bale quantity will be higher overall. It will mean that there will be less loads of hay and feeding straw from the east. There's noticeably less cattle everywhere too.

I’ve sold 80 bales of silage at 35, its to a man that buys of me every year, he said he thought they would be dearer this year.

Cut Thursday and baled this evening. Plan on leaving them out until Thursday as there was a bit of dampness by the time it was baled. 253 off this bit that was grazed mid-April
