Heat Detection Using Bluetooth - Herdmate Market Research Survey

Hello all,

As part of a business project we have come up with an idea for a device for automatic heat detection which we believe would be more accurate and cheaper than current alternatives. We would be very grateful to hear your thoughts on the product by filling out this brief survey.

We are happy to engage in any further discussion in the replies.

Thanks again,

Michael J

How’s it working ?
Accelerometer/inclinometer? Is Bluetooth not limiting range ?

So the concept with the bluetooth tags would be that when a cow and bull come into close proximity for a prolonged period of time a serve/heat is recorded and stored (somewhat similar to how the COVID tracker app works). The farmer then goes out to the field when they are checking on the herd and the data is automatically collected onto their phone. Movement data from a pedometer would also indicate if a cow came back into heat or not.

Current solutions give a real-time alert of a cow coming into heat, which is why they tend to be quite expensive, whereas a bluetooth sensor and pedometer in an ear tag is cheap by comparison. Our product would be primarily aimed at a bull served suckler herd, with a view to making life a bit easier for the part time farmer, or one with a split holding.

Thanks for responses aounds interesting, I use remote sensors for machine health diagnostics and use gprs instead of Bluetooth for range/optimal battery life.

Suppose this would work with a Teaser Bull or Bullock left in with cows if you wanted to AI?
