Impact wrench opinions

Just seen this on my news feed and wondering does anyone have any opinions?

Only needed for the odd bit of use so no need to buy the top of the range one.

Do you already have any cordless tools @Reggie.? We have a few Dewalt bits here and I want to buy an impact wrench at some stage down the line. From memory I think you could buy the Dewalt impact wrench body on its own for about €180. It could be worth pricing one if you have batteries for tools already.
I’m no help on the Draper one I’m afraid

It's a thought alright. No other tools here

Might be ok for plough points and the like but I wouldn’t expect it to do tractor wheel studs.

Personally, I’d go for a better brand (realise you said you’re not going for top of the range).

I was in a good branded tool store a year or two ago. They specialised in a very good brand of tools which I won’t name. A branded cordless was there, just like that but not Draper.
I enquired from one of the staff about it and he told me not to bother as they were rubbish.
He advised me to go to DISC in Cork and buy a Milwaukee if I wanted a cordless impact gun.

That draper spec says it has a max torque of 400Nm and a breakaway torque of 850nm. If it really can deliver a breakaway of 850nm would that not shift tractor wheel nuts or in reality would it be too close to the limit and you are €200 down. ?

I’m not up on torques to be honest! We have a fairly fresh CP 3/4” air gun here here, while I haven’t tried 1/2” on tractor studs I don’t think I’d be expecting miracles from one. Especially as batteries get tired.

I have seen the 3/4 Milwaukee with 1850nm, struggle on wheel studs

The biggest half inch socket I have is 27mm. Smallest tractor stud I have is 29mm or inch and an eight roughly. Not sure if I’d use half inch sockets on tractor studs even if I could find one to fit, I’d go straight for the one inch windy gun.
On quality half inch air guns I bought an Aldi one for €25 which disintegrated and didn’t have much power. Got it replaced with another which suffered the same fate. Bought a half inch King Tony one for €150 and it is a pure animal for power, the Aldi ones aren’t fit to be put in the box the King Tony came in.

Have the dewalt xr. Torque is 950. Amazing what it will open. I never tighten things with it as can start ringing off studs. Put on plough points with it once and hadn’t got it when they had to be turned. Wasn’t nice. Bettter than the 3/4 air gun.

Had a set of draper sockets and wasn’t impressed. Compared to Bahco.

Its hard to always go for the best but for cordless tools id try go for a milwaukee or maybe dewault. The first day is the hardest buying a set with batteries and a charger. After that the bare tools arnt very expensive. Apart from the 9 inch angle grinder, the corded tools are as good as redundant at home now

Just got a Milwaukee high torque gun and it’s fit to take the wheels nuts of the tractor . It’s a great gun but heavy . Had a Delco that lasted 6 years but eventually packed it in. Was a very good gun and was worked every day but the Milwaukee seems a lot better, they have dropped a lot on price , I got it for €400 plus vat with 2 batteries and charger, was going to also get there grease gun as they are meant to very good for high pressure work on blocked grease nipples but it is €400 plus vat for a bare tool , may wait until next month !!! Have a dewault grease gun but blows out to easily on even a half blocked grease nipple.

There seems to be a range of different Milwaukee guns rising in price depending on strength. What sort of NM should you be looking for?

Since I got the Hitachi brushless impact wrench I never use the bar anymore tighten, give them a couple of seconds on the 2nd strongest setting, carry the gun with me, check them after a couple of hours work, after a days work and after a week. Only having to check a few of them after the first check.

When the first rabe power Harrow came here it was a horrible job changing the tines with a socket and a bar. Could take me half a day. And skint knuckles. Air gun was a big help but would fail on a few coz no real control over it on the rounded heads of some. Changed them in the field before sowing beet last year in about 3/4 of an hour. None loosened.

https://www.sgs-engineering.com/mil...wrench-with-2x-5ah-batteries-charger-and-case I’ve bought a few tools of this crowd always much cheaper than any of the Irish crowds just make sure to register it online and keep the receipt. If ever theirs a problem you ring their helpline then you send it by courier to their repair crowd I actually find it much easier to deal with it that way then going back to a shop.

Anyone ever deal with Conlan oils in Athy for the Milkwaukee stuff?? They've a few adds up on donedeal and would be working out cheaper than Air-Impact in thurlas.... Looking for 3/4 impact gun and probably the 115 grinder body too

Paid 475 for 3/4 recently, of a tractor dealer I use. They were saying they can be bought cheaper on Donedeal but unsure where they are coming from. Spending that much, buy from someone reputable would be my advice

i have a 3/4 CP windy gun, not too high a spec but does most things if there 100psi in the tank anyhow had a biggish one off nut I was failing with sockets and a length of bar so got out the 3/4, air tank up on 150psi and let it rip for a few seconds and could see movement and then it spun, not what I expected as it sheared the stub off, turned out it was a LH thread................................................

Air-impact sell tools . And are widely known for doing so . Presumably , theyd have a better knowledge due to that , of what was what . Plus theyd be fairly local to you .
i dont know anything about the other crowd .
