Never knew you had one she's immaculate.
Intend to pick one up was going to go this year but might leave it another year.
There's always something on the shopping list.
Your going to go blind

A real little gem I found this autumn sowing season and not far from you Blackwater boy
A JD8410. The growl from her, the 1st time she passed me, I just had to watch her and take her in fully :crying::crying: a rare thing of beauty

are you happier knowing you might have to throw money for parts at it more often than a newer tractor the older it gets.
simply because you know that its cumin down the line if you keep her on but she is such a good tractor your happy to do that rather than fork out big coin on a newer tractor.

or, there is the danger the parts could add up to the price of the payments on a newer tractor if things hit the fan about right and so its (like a lot of things) a gamble too.

its something i wonder about the tractors here, i know them inside out, i know they will eat more money the older they get but am i as far on just keeping them right as i am by trading up, would it actually work out less..

I know it well only 2 miles from me Shane, he has that mint 7710, 3350 and a 4255 on 710 tyres, gorgeous collection of them kept very well.

Perfectly happy because i know its not coming down the line, hasnt cost any more to run or keep running than any newer tractor or even my one of my newer tractors,
From a man like yourself that has a 10 series powerquad deere, you should know,a well looked after will do well in excess of 20000hrs before any hiccups, and a 8.1 powertec will do well over that,so where do you expect me to be spending enough money on her to be equaling a payment.
She only has over 7000 hours on her so i doubt ill be "throwing money for parts" on her in the near future.

My god, I've just become very aroused looking at that 8410.....

That's a huuuuge plough too! Who is it? Pm me guys if you prefer...

With a reasonable sized new tractor costing 10 to 15000 a year in payments, the 7810 would have to sh1t tin in a bad way to cost anything near that.

Got the 7710 on the same evening, both machines in perfect condition. Missed out on the 4255 & 3350 but did see the 4255 on a FB video with a furrow press I think.

Did you not get the 4255 drilling beans with the vaddy outside Conna last feb/March or was I dreaming?? The 3350 pulls the ring roller with front links and a stone fork, she was rolling that field you got the 8410 in about 2 days later

It was first time getting this team in action. I had seen photos on facebook but never got them myself until a few weeks back now. Delighted to have had the chance to get them, especially the 8410 with the 10 furrow

Depending on spec a new jd around 200hp is going to cost over €100, if it were possible to get a 7810 and a 8410 or 8320 with low hours (under 5k) I'd pay more for the two second hands than buy a new tractor. The problem is finding the genuine article.

i dont expect you to be spending big coin any time at all but everything gives trouble at some point.
the post i put up was hypothetically speaking, all i was wondering was if it was a good choice to stay with what you knew rather than going newer and that one of the catches to that could be if things went wrong you could end up out as much as the newer one might of cost.

its a silly question, dont worry about it hi.

tinman some lads have a 135 or an old Ford which is sentimental to them. Baz has a 7810. In years to come his grandkids will be discussing about taking it out on vintage road runs.

I think tinman's point was that he's in a similar situation himself with two devils he knows that have cost little but should he upgrade....

I don't think he was trying to be awkward. This time :-P

Another local 7710 to me with near 11000hours on her, only got the front linkage and pto fitted this year,
10 series are sentimental to alot of lads @profi.........
There a tractor that aren't that old yet but still well able to put it up to or even be better than the newer machines
Iv two 10 series here and cant see myself selling either soon,iv im changing anything it will be the 30 for an r,but cant see that happening yet.

Everyone's situation is different, a one or two tractor operation putting up high hours it may make sense to Change to a new tractor every 4 or 5 years, in our own situation there are days we 6, there are months when we only need 1 or 2.
When we were gong to look at the 7810 in England, (we spend a long time looking for a genuine low you're done) I spoke to a jd mechanic about the potentials problems we would have with a 7810 he said the only problem you will have is you will want another one.

How does she run with the two mowers not a bother I'd imagine?
Did you work in a John deere dealers one time or have you just picked it up as you go along ?

In fairness Tinman and JohnBoy make a fair point. There will come a point that no matter how good a tractor is age and workload will have gotten the better of it and then it is a big jump to something capable of taking on the workload.

But then the old tractor will have earned its keep and probably deserve a retirement spot at the back of the shed.

Now a quick question. Would it be more sensible to buy an older/higher hour 7810 and overhaul it or pay the premium for an original low hour tractor. Or just sit on your hands for a few years and wait for the demand to subside and prices drop like they have with Ford 7810s as an example.

One of my biggest mistakes was buying a New Renault in 2001 when a New John Deere 7810 with suspension and everything on the menu was £5000 more expensive . :blushing::blushing::blushing: . We had the Renault 3 years before we changed it . A local John Deere 7810 broke the reduction gears twice pulling a 7 furrow plough before he changed to a Fendt . They John deere 7810 have a few weak spots but are a lovely tractor .
