loader softdrive

Also can the bottle and pipe just come off, is there a valve in the bottle that holds the charge until its plumbed back into the system?

If the hydraulic pressure is off the system the bottle can be removed and PHC will be able to test it, recharge it if needed and it is not damaged or replace it if damaged.

Brilliant thanks. I'll try out the solenoid and whip off the bottle if that's working ok

I'll need to get a helper for that one. I dont know to be honest. Would you hear a definite click when it engages?
You might hear it with engine switched off, you should be able to switch it with ignition on. You should feel it clicking with your hand on it. Plug it in and out at the solenoid while switched on for handiness.

Yes, imagine the bottle to have a tube of air inside with the nozzle where the valve is, with no oil pressure the bottle is full of air and with oil pressure the tube (diaphragm) is pushed back into the bottle.

you can tell if the soft ride is switched on / working by powering down with the bucket, it won't push down and pick the front of the tractor up if the soft drive is on.

You were right about that bit anyway @BasilSeal
The loader wont push down but not getting any cushion so can I surmise the bottle is gone?

Hi all,

Just noticed this thread when trying to determine pre-charge settings for a softride. Got a Chillton MX40-85 loader which bounces like crazy on the road. Would like to put a soft ride on it before it wrecks itself or my back. The loader would be used primarily around yards for moving bales. On road it would be empty. I presume no need for it to be on in yard?

I've seen that dual accumulator setups on the lift circuit seem popular - with one precharged to about 15-20 bar and another precharged to 30-40bar.

Are the dual setups a better option? We'd be driving down minor roads with an empty loader and encounter some big wallows in the road. Is a secondary accumulator worthwhile or is a single one sufficient?

thats your choice
personally id set 1 accumulator for the loader arm and maybe a bale spike then the other for say 2 bales on the front
but then i got a charge kit so would set the empty accumulator on the loader then charge it until the loader rises a bit, note the charge then keep charging till it stops rising and note that then release the pressure till its half way of the 2 notes

What max bar do you need - 200bar more than sufficient?

Some of the accumulators I've been looking at define the range of the precharge value. So, 90% of min operating pressure = Maximum precharge. 1/6 max operating pressure = Minimum precharge.

Not sure how I'd be able to work that out myself.

Bit embarrassed about this but recently discovered a bottle in the cross member of our q45 loader so assuming it's for soft drive but it ain't working so I presume the bottle is shagged. Loader is in the yard or field most of the time so we never even thought of it up to how.

Where would a lad go to see if it could be recharged? Is there anyone specialising in them?
Also a bit of a dopey question, the bottle is plumbed back to the block on the loader and these are the fittings, can these be gripped and unscrewed? There aren't any nuts on them that I can see, there is on the bottle end but cant get in at that in the tube.

Worked the finest ever since, got a new bottle for it thst is rechargeable. Thing it was 150 quid odd. Transformed the tractor to be honest

Did u ever try twisting the knob to see if it turns it on and off it does in mine anyway
