Mothballing the sheds for summer.

I was muckong out the sheep sheds today, and emptied the water troughs as usuall, and decided to put a splash of iodine in each one.
Plan being to try and stop the water going manky from standing.
Not sure is this wise or even worth it?
Figured iodine is fairly harmless if there's any residue left come winter.

Can't turn water off btw, and don't like dry troughs as I think the rubber seals perish on the valves.

Is there anything you lot do to keep the sheds over summer?
 
Builders lime in the troughs is a good job . I use it the field troughs over the grazing season, it keeps the water Crystal clean

We have a small open well on the land and my father draws some water from of for house drinking weather for spring, summer and autumn. About 3 weeks before he starts taking water from it in spring he empties all the water out and any dirt in the bottom. When it refills he throws in half a bucket of lime and by the time he is ready to use it, it is very clean. The nicest water you could ever drink.
