Sheep Shearing Trailers

That would be great if you could put up a few pictures of it.Did you remake the axles in the mudge trailer?

The suspension stubs i have bought have a square section 50x50 x 200mm long, I think i understand how you done the stub axles from your description, its a good way of doing them, if 50mm square two pieces of 60 x 60 x 5 angle would make the cross beam into which they would fit.

What size wheels have you on them? Is the draw bar removable?

I intend to make the trailer 8ft x 5ft, how are the legs done at the front for lifting the trailer?
We put a new axel in the old trailer the original was too light and they were slightly strained the new axels are 50 mm box they wouldn’t fit in the heavy wall60mm so we boxed the angle ours have the old type Muge jacking system a winch mounted on the side of the trailer pulls up the back of a leg one one side a torsion bar goes across through a tube to the other side to turn a leg on the other side. We made the drawbar removable on ours aswell because there is loading gates on both the front and back. The axels are rated for 1300 kg as far as I remember I can’t remember the wheel size off the top of my head

Looks a right job. Wonder how it would compare to a combi clamp or equivalent?

My combi clamp doesn’t drop lambs or need power,no maintenance and works a treat, also 3 way shedding that you can’t do with a drop floor conveyor.

How do you find it with catching stubborn lambs that won't run into it without persuasion? Does it become a two man operation then or could one lad manage well enough?

Same as a conveyor you need someone pushing them up.

If only doing a few you can manage on your own but you need to rush to the combi pedal, with a conveyor you’d need a remote control switch, lads in NZ use dogs to push up but I’m not a fan.

you could push onto a conveyor easy enough. They can't go anywhere once on.

Saw an automatic combi clamp type machine on a trip to Scotland. Pure porn of the sheep handling world! Run the sheep up and it caught each one automatically.
It could weigh and drafft automatically too. Or draft automatically off ear tags.

Yeah I was thinking that alright. Yeah I'd be the same myself, prefer the dog for field work.

Was it something like this? It makes handling sheep look like a breeze:eek3:

From £13.5k

I like the sensor for shutting the clamp, wouldn’t be hard to rig a compressed air ram onto my combi, but then I’d need a remote and an air supply, the beauty with a combi is simplicity, you simply never miss catching one, sometimes they jump and you’ll catch them with all four feet off the ground:lol: battery powered weigher means I don’t need any power.
