Crops were a bit taller last year at this stage though, were they?Just happened to be looking back through some old photos here on the phone and spotted ones from this day last year when awns were out. So not a big surprise.
When was it sown gone?
March 23th.Just happened to be looking back through some old photos here on the phone and spotted ones from this day last year when awns were out. So not a big surprise.

The drought last year would have caused it to race on through the growth stages, May was a lot warmer last year as well.was looking at my barley sown on the 22nd of March and is the same as that. Only the very odd plant thou. I have a picture on my phone of a field of barley sown 3 days later last year with awns well out on the 3rd June.

It’s amazing how even in the next county the difference the weather can make. This time last year everything around here was miserable, shooting out at only a few inches high, until the weather broke and then crops stretched a bit but too late for winter crops. Whereas this year is the complete opposite, crops are almost too tall for comfort. It shows, no matter what fertiliser or chemicals or fancy machinery if the weather doesn't play ball your at nothing.A lot taller, I looked through some more of the photos and they are about 2 weeks behind this year compared to last.
What date was that sown and what variety? Very well advanced compared to mine.Barley getting its final fungicide, decoy stavento and serpent
Sown 7th March. It's S.Y.Amity for seed. It's the best looking crop of spring barley i have had in yearsWhat date was that sown and what variety? Very well advanced compared to mine.
Lot of variations out this year, but at home I see improvements every few days so don’t panic yet. Some spots might not improve, others might.View attachment 92911View attachment 92912View attachment 92913
The brilliant and the poor, with the middling closer to the poor.
I'm not happy with spring barley this year at all here.
It’s the same here, spring barley has improved a lot in the last ten days especially the April sown barley.Lot of variations out this year, but at home I see improvements every few days so don’t panic yet. Some spots might not improve, others might.
You may go old school on it's ass next year. Most of the Spring Barley is looking okay We have a few fields of continuous spring barley with willow herb and redshank .
No but only a day or twoIs it gone a bit late for Terpal? Flag is well out but no awns visible yet.
