Stainless Steel Door Track

After spending a few hours removing an old door track today I was thinking is it possible get a track in Stainless

Track approximatley 20years old and even though there was a door flashing covering it, it is completely and totally rotten. It was galvanized track too. 20yrs isn't bad service I guess.

Reason I was thinking the SS was all the other metal holding up the track is good as new. Price difference for SS track would be v small in the overall price of a door track I would be thinking.

The door is appro 15ftX15ft and sheeted with regular cladding.

Anyone moved away from door track and now using another more modern type of track or does such a more modern technology exist.

personnally i would go old school with a wheel about a flat steel, only now put a bearing into the wheel although they can be bought now with a bearing, no rotten track, no jammed or seized wheels.

The rollers don't last on sliding doors if they are used frequently and get a bit of age.
I have replaced most of them in a slatted shed thats just over 20 year-old

Have to replace the wheels on our old school track as one collapsed and Just spotted those with the bearings in them. Hopefully good job.

I’ve used wheels from pallet trucks and run them on angle iron, have some wheels made of steel with a bearing insert on a very heavy 18’ high door.

We found the tracks with the canopy’s over them rot a lot quicker than those with exposed Rails especially on cattle houses, the only explanation we had was the humidity stayed on those sheltered with the canopy whereas the exposed ones dried off quicker. 10-15 years usually does them about here but close to the sea too.

An SS track is about 1000euro a length I made a few phone calls last week, only ever used in meat plants or cleanroom environment the man i was talking to told me.

Wonder would these do the job https://www.technicawheels.co.uk/p1195-130-40-36-25-nylon-wheel-with-6005-2rs-ball-bearings.html even upgrade to SS bearngs and use the traditional method of an Angle Iron for a track.

2RS stands for 2rubber seals so bearings should be pretty well sealed.
Ask a metal fabricators shop for a price to press out a ss track for you from 3 or 4 mm sheet. It might be a lot cheaper then buying ready fabricated stuff.

They will be fine,hardly expensive.

You can buy stainless steel unistrut and get sliding door gear to suit. A standard length of galv unistrut 6m long is 45 euro. Track and rollers for less than €250.

I'd go with Henderson track, with manufacturer supplied hanger brackets and get the runners with the greatest load capacity.

Allow lateral adjustment in the hanger fixing point. As this is one of the main reasons of door runner failure. If the door is not hanging level the weight of the door is on only one set of wheels causing premature wear and ultimately resulting in the runner bearings collapsing.

who in Ireland supplies that kind of gear or where would a fella get it in Ireland ?

I imagine the track rots from the outside so if you painted the track with the paint for galvanised gates and got a good spray on oil or grease for inside?
