Trailed furrow press

needs a bit of kv green as well
The original Farmforce colour was all red (maybe some black too) I think? I could be wrong.

It was definitely all red when we got it although it had been sprayed. We took off the metal plate with the model number and will re-rivet it back on once the paint is hard.

Apologies if you’re sick of my photos. Hopefully the next one will be the press in use.
Just need to get some new cleaning chains and re rivet the serial plate back on.

We’ve gone from 67” to 100” so a 50% increase in working width if we run at 5 x 20” sods. Should give us a good output in a day.
Plough away steady, not overly fast but yet achieve a good fine firm soil profile while yet getting through acres.

I’ll probably move it the longer distances on the road with the rear linkage of the tractor but I’ll move it short distances with the front weight frame (has a hook made from 1” plate that picks it up by the presses 3 point links)

Tidy job lad, are you back travelling with work or are you still mostly locked down?

Thanks John,

Doing a bit of travelling again. Sales would be relatively quiet at this time of the year but I'm spending a good bit of time visiting trials and crops.

How about yourselves?

Only in the office a day a week and not going anywhere else.

It's great the time it gives you in the evenings for getting jobs like that or the grab done isnt it?

I don't get that much done in the evenings to be honest but Saturday and Sunday (to my wifes dissatisfaction) would be important for these projects!

On a few days holidays too (was planning to be in France) so that helps output!

Last piece of the jigsaw arrived yesterday, a new press arm. Not cheap but the correct used one is as rare as a unicorn. The new ones have a spring shock absorber built in which should be no harm.
I didn’t trust our old arm with the heavier press.

A bit of spanner work involved in fitting it but it went fine. The bit that worried me most was fitting a 5th hose through the centre of the headstock but it got through.
Just need some good conditions now to set it up.

One of the plates on the front furrow rail had a crack so we replaced that too. I’ll touch up the bare metal bits with paint when I have a chance.

Nice work Cork, there weren't too many of those in this country to copy from. Fair bit of work involved fitting that.

Aha, that's why you weren't ploughing... Do you press all winter ploughing?

Haha, no I would have ploughed away if land was dry enough. We had 21mm on Tuesday night and 5mm on Thursday.
I would intend to press all the ploughing.

I've been following this with interest.
Very impressive project. Fair play.
A call from us will be made to see the finished work.

Thanks, it’ll be a case of “don’t call me, I’ll call you” as it’ll probably look a right mess until I get everything set up!!!!:eek3:
