Trailed silage harvester outfit

I’d stick with half set. Know if a mex 6 that was harder to drive on full set but flew on half. Could have been better set after getting half removed. Do you need the shorter cut length.

I know nothing about a Poettinger but We had a Mengele sh25n which is a similar setup flywheel machine, albeit smaller than a Mex 6. It had a half set, one time I put in a half set of new knives and 5 good used ones in every second position to achieve a full set. I didn't notice the harvester being any harder to drive but it blew better, chopped better and material wrapping on the centre shaft ceased so all positive.
I've been using a full set ever since. I like the short chop length as I believe it lends it self to better pit consolidation and sealing, thus eliminating waste and if more roughage is required for the scratch effect in the rumen a bale of straw in the diet feeder solves that.
