What are you up to in the workshop?

swapped the steer links on the JCB 515 mini loadall, the genuine JCB ones i put on last only lasted 400 hours so i've made some of my own with phosphor bronze bushes and stainless pins to see if they last any longer.

made the pins out of some 30mm stainless bar

Photo0102.jpg

had some links profiled out of 15mm mild steel and milled the flats off and drilled them for the grease nipples

i bought some phosphor bronze tube and machined it to size, as i couldn't get that size of bar through the spindle on the lath in one piece, i made an aluminium mandrel to hold a single cut piece in the chuck, i made the turned down part of the mandrel the correct length the bushes need to be so i would face of the first end and turn it down then turn the piece round on the mandrel and face it off level with the end of the mandrel

then pushed them into the reamed out ling body with the press

Photo0130.jpg

Then they were reamed out to 20mm in the drill press, i reamed them after pressing them in to avoid distorting the bush, they were also drilled through the grease nipple hole so the grease would go through the bush to the pin.

Found an add on FB selling a job lot of milling bits and drill bits, a fella who used to be an engineer in the aerospace industry.
Moving house and sorting his garage out.
Serious selection of milling gear.
I bought his drill bits. Mostly unused or lightly used. Top quality gear.
The two boxes are Huot.
£30 the lot!Screenshot_20210515-203231_Gallery.jpg

Had the Neighbour over yesterday with his Massey tractor. Two fairly large bolts for holding on the loader bracket had broken off in the housing just under the cad. Awkward job enough. First one came out handy with the easy out. Had to remove the loader bracket for the second one. It was really stuck in there and had pulled the outermost thread. Around 35mm of bolt wax stuck. Cleaned up the outer thread with the die grinder then Drilled a hole all the way through the center of the bolt. Heated it and cooled it a few times with gas and a water hose. Came out easy once I got it going. 2 hours of hardship but great satisfaction in the end

Not quite going to plan. I thought the wee digger would bend it easily as it’s only 5mm . Will have to borrow the gas...

What's the best way to stop a mettle frame from warping as ypu weld it?

Was making a square out of 20x20 box earlier.
Thought I had it bang on, apparently not!😂 nice twist in it from corner to corner!

Not mine, belonging to a friend - still making small mods to boggie so no serious test yet but impressive setup. Bodies can be run on boggie or lorry. He has flat, curtain, cattle and alu tipper

Seen this in one the magazines it looks super job only need to maintain one set of running gear for a few trailer tasks. It would suit some enterprises.

Do you have to lift the bodies on and off to change them

Servicing the axles and hubs on the Volvo and.......well the pictures say it all. Thrust washer in the differential unit has failed. The bits of it are laying in the diff cover and plenty more came out when I drained the oil this morning. Probably caused by the bearing on that side also on the point of failing and quiet a lot of movement over and back in the diff. The joys of running older machinery. 20210521_164337.jpg20210521_160237.jpg20210521_160226.jpg20210521_154456.jpg
