That’ll be an expensive crop this year, 3.5ton at €200/ton, another €100 minimum for straw?
Looks nearly too far gone for silage...

Not really, it’s pro rata to buying rolled barley and straw. That’ll be an expensive crop this year, 3.5ton at €200/ton, another €100 minimum for straw?

No, the whole field, he reckons it is the cheapest way to buy grain, he has wholecrop barley of his own, which is less advanced to go on top of it.Just headlands is it gone?
Make the rest of it much easier to bring the rest of the way.
rats gonna have a field day this year. all their food be stocked up in a nice handy pile for them
A lot less risk like thatWould you have rats attack the silage pit if its pitted this way? Lets say if you had a layer of grass below and above the wholecrop
Any time I ever saw wholecrop baled the rats were apocalyptic.A lot less risk like that
Did you pit it?I have never seen straw so golden and grain so soft as when cutting spring barley on friday, i was expecting the straw to be allot greener
yeah, always pit wholecrop, and use corn cracker, crop too expensive to be doing half measures. Was to be done 5 days previous, but such is life. Be grandDid you pit it?
Many acres? Big pit?yeah, always pit wholecrop, and use corn cracker, crop too expensive to be doing half measures. Was to be done 5 days previous, but such is life. Be grand
Never had any bother doing it that way.Would you have rats attack the silage pit if its pitted this way? Lets say if you had a layer of grass below and above the wholecrop
You should have your rat infestation around the yard under control anyway regardless of whowholecrop
Nope, little pit of 20ac, don't do wholecrop anymore as not winter finishing cattle, used do allot when grain was cheaper. Switched over from crimping onto wholecrop due to less work. Cant afford grain for beef cattle nowadays!!Many acres? Big pit?
Is 20ac of wholecrop not bulky enough?Nope, little pit of 20ac, don't do wholecrop anymore as not winter finishing cattle, used do allot when grain was cheaper. Switched over from crimping onto wholecrop due to less work. Cant afford grain for beef cattle nowadays!!
Not really, about 15 loads i reckon of the Smyth maybe 24ft trailers I think they are. Doubt there was 20 loads of it. A 60x100 sheet covered it and 20ac of silage easilyIs 20ac of wholecrop not bulky enough?
Any pictures, I'm sure readers of this thread would like to see what 20ac of wholecrop looks like in a heap? Not really, about 15 loads i reckon of the Smyth maybe 24ft trailers I think they are. Doubt there was 20 loads of it. A 60x100 sheet covered it and 20ac of silage easily
